Charles Wyatt Boone, a retired USF&G vice president, died Tuesday of a heart attack at his home in Phoenix, Baltimore County. He was 71.Mr. Boone retired in 1991 after 41 years with the insurer.Born and reared in Berry, Ala., Mr. Boone attended Auburn University for a year before enlisting in the Army Air Forces in 1942. He was based in England for four years, and was a navigator on bombing missions over Germany.Mr. Boone was an active fisherman, who also enjoyed hunting and gardening, and was a member of Masonic organizations.

Evelyn S. Coyle, who owned and operated a northern Baltimore County farm with her husband and was a longtime volunteer at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, died Saturday of heart failure at the Broadmead retirement community in Cockeysville. She was 101. The daughter of a real estate salesman and a homemaker, the former Evelyn Sheats was born in Baltimore and raised in Forest Park. After graduating in 1928 from Forest Park High School, she studied at Strayer's Business College.

Albert Joseph Barnes Sr., affectionately known as the "mayor of the block" on which he lived in Milford Mill, died Tuesday of a stroke at St. Agnes Hospital. He was 72.A leader in his western Baltimore County community, Mr. Barnes visited elderly neighbors daily to check on their welfare, acted as a block watcher to help prevent crime and raised money for scholarship programs for local youths.Carol Barbee-Dixon remembered the assistance Mr. Barnes offered to a family devastated by a fire two years ago -- a family he had never met."

Rosh Hashana prayers, tunes are program's topic"The Melody and the Meaning" is the title of the opening program of the "Pardes -- Enter the Orchard of Jewish Wisdom" series at Randallstown Synagogue, 8729 Church Lane, which begins at 10 p.m. Sept. 7.Cantor Nossi Gross will discuss and demonstrate the connection between the themes of the Rosh Hashana prayers and the "nusach," the traditional tunes. The goal is to combine an understanding of the contents of popular prayers with an appreciation of the musical chant.
