Lucille C. Schilling, a homemaker and volunteer, died Friday of pneumonia at National Lutheran Home in Rockville. The longtime Columbia resident was 83. Lucille Cameron was born and raised in Bourbon County, Ky. After graduating from the Fugazzi Business College in Lexington, Ky., she worked for several years at the Bluegrass Ordnance Depot. She was married in 1946 to Frederick K. Schilling Jr., a U.S. Foreign Service officer, and during his diplomatic assignments, the couple lived in Paris and in Oslo, Norway.

The Rev. Augustus Hackmann, the retired pastor of Catonsville's Second English Lutheran Church who preached sermons until he was 96, died of congestive heart failure Thursday at the Charlestown Retirement Community. The Catonsville resident was 97. Born in Baltimore and raised in the Curtis Bay section, he was a 1927 City College graduate who earned an education diploma from the old Maryland State Normal School, now Towson University. He taught elementary subjects for six years in the Baltimore public schools system and earned a bachelor's degree at the Johns Hopkins University.

Or maybe you're just so bitter about the Ravens' season that you can't bear to watch the Steelers and the Seahawks face off tomorrow evening. Fear not: There are some escapes from the Super Bowl madness, or at least from the endless hours of pregame coverage. To maintain some machismo even while avoiding the big screens, head to the last hours of the World of Wheels Auto Show at the Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St. The annual auto show, which kicked off yesterday, features more than 30 clubs and 200 cars, plus assorted events and exhibits, including a fashion show by the Texas Bikini Team.

Begin with Bach The lowdown -- New Year's Day is a perfect time to hear the life-enriching music of Johann Sebastian Bach. His Cantata No. 186 - Argre dich, o Seele, nicht ("Trouble not thyself, O my Soul") - is the featured work on Sunday's Bach Concert Series presentation at First English Lutheran Church. The remarkable series, founded and conducted by T. Herbert Dimmock, offers a free performance of music by Bach with chorus, soloists and orchestra on the first Sunday of the month. This program will also include Lux Aeterna by the late American composer Edwin Fissinger, performed in memory of Lorenzo Handy, a popular minister and arts writer of the Baltimore Times who was the victim of a homicide earlier this month.
