Flyers goalie Ray Emery will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdomen, and is expected to miss about six weeks. Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement Tuesday night before the Flyers played the Islanders. The Flyers, who have lost five straight and eight of nine, recalled goalie Johan Backlund from Adirondack, but will rely heavily on Brian Boucher . Emery hadn't been playing well, and was pulled from Saturday's game against the Capitals after allowing five goals.

EMERY "SWEDE" LARSON was a longtime Baltimore County resident who made numerous contributions to our community. In the late 60's he organized the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Lacrosse League, which to date has taught thousands of kids. Professionally Swede was a salesman, who started his career in the corrugated business at Baltimore Box. He ended his "active" career at Goodwill Industries, where he helped employ many disabled and handicapped people through contracts with local businesses that could benefit from their special talents.

About a month before last summer's Iron Girl Triathlon, Melissa Emery was beset by debilitating fatigue. She had taken part in the Columbia event's debut in August 2006, a year after turning 40 and finding herself in the throes of a midlife crisis. Completing her first swim-bike-run event proved she could handle the demanding preparation and physical exertion, so she continued to push herself. But when she started to bog down last summer, Emery wondered: "Am I training too much?" She soon learned that the training regimen wasn't the culprit.

WASHINGTON -- Attorneys for Roger Clemens' former personal trainer yesterday showed a House committee photos of vials, gauze and a needle that they allege was used to inject the seven-time Cy Young Award-winner with steroids. Attorney Richard Emery told reporters that the photos - one showed a half-crushed beer can said to contain spent needles - depict "hard evidence" from 2001 and 2002 showing that trainer Brian McNamee is telling the truth about steroids and Clemens is lying. "The issue is clear.

86, an 18 year resident of Severna Park died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 29, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Pasadena. Mrs. York grew up in Maine and relocated to Maryland from Connecticut with her husband in 1989 to be close to her children. She was very active in the Senior Center and was chosen to represent Connecticut Seniors and testify on Capital Hill for the Select Committee on Aging in 1982. She remained active in may roles for the Senior Center, taking computer classes, swimming, yoga and serving Meals on Wheels.

T. EMERY HUDSON of Bethany Beach, DE and formerly of Baltimore, died on May 9, 2006. He was 91. He retired from Glenn L. Martin Aircraft. He was predeceased by his wife Madeline (Way) Hudson. He is survived by three sons Thomas E. Hudson, Jr., Martin Hudson, Brian Hudson and one daughter, Louise Mae Williams Services. So much for the Ottawa Senators being vulnerable in the first round of the NHL playoffs because of rookie goaltender Ray Emery. Emery stopped 30 shots and Martin Havlat scored for the fourth straight game last night, leading the Eastern Conference's top seed to a 5-2 road victory that pushed the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning to the brink of elimination. The Senators lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 and can close it out by winning Game 5 in Ottawa tomorrow night. "We've put ourselves in a good spot, but it's not said and done.
