The Anne Arundel County Police Department's second in command has agreed to appear before the County Council on Monday night and answer questions as part of an inquiry into pending criminal charges against County Executive John R. Leopold. Deputy Police Chief Lt. Col. Emerson C. Davis accepted an invitation from Councilman Jamie Benoit, writing to the council in an email Wednesday afternoon. "If it is still your desire for me to appear before the County Council to answer questions regarding the police department ... I will accept your invitation," Davis wrote.

For four seasons at Maryland State College and three years with the New York Jets, Emerson Boozer and Earl Christy were teammates and friends. They lived in the same apartment complex as rookies and Christy even sold Boozer his Great Dane when they were in New York. Looking back on their seven years together, Christy remembered Boozer, the Hawks' powerful, record-breaking halfback, as an accessible star that was friendly to everyone … so long as any encounters took place off the field.

Emerson V. Clarke Jr., a retired Aberdeen Proving Ground physicist and a decorated World War II infantryman, died Thursday of pneumonia at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The longtime Bel Air resident was 85. Born in Baltimore, Mr. Clarke spent his early years in Overlea before moving with his family to a home on Mayfield Avenue. After graduating from Polytechnic Institute in 1941, he went to work at the old Glenn L. Martin Co. plant in Middle River, building Martin B-26 Marauder bombers, and was a supervisor at the time when he was inducted into the Army in 1944.
