He has a pretty good life: a relatively undemanding job at Dry River University in D'Iberville, Miss., a steady wife named Clare, a stepdaughter who has crossed the shoals of adolescence, a big brick house on the water.

Expectations are that the Ravens will take a late-round flier on a quarterback in next week's NFL draft. If they do, it'll be for a player who has passed all their reference points — just as with any other position. What does Eric DeCosta, the team's director of player personnel, want in a third-day quarterback?

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama quarterback's agile brain can sop up tradition the way the biscuits do the red-eye gravy down at The Waysider, the Tuscaloosa eatery where Bear Bryant regularly mumbled through breakfast.
