Baltimore County police identified a man who was shot by officers in Windsor Mill on Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a woman and attempted to run officers down with his car. Police charged 29-year-old Elisha Rayfield Pridgeon with attempted first-degree murder and related charges in the confrontation early Sunday. Officers who were called to the 3700 block of Old Milford Mill Road on a report of a man assaulting a woman used Tasers and batons to subdue Pridgeon, but said they didn't work.

Whenever Shanell Carter comes up with a steal, she immediately looks down court for her sister Elisha, running the break. The connection almost always results in a basket for Eastern Tech.In most games, Shanell, a senior, and Elisha, a sophomore, connect more than enough to carry the Mavericks to victory.The Carter sisters have been a boon for the Mavericks, who were 21-3 last season, the best record in school history. Before that, the Mavericks had enjoyed only two winning seasons in 25 years.

ELISHA RAY NANCE, 94 Last surviving D-Day 'Bedford Boy' When World War II broke out, the "Bedford Boys" left home to serve. Many of them didn't come home - so many that the community had among the greatest losses per capita on D-Day. Now the last survivor has died. Elisha Ray Nance died Sunday in Bedford, Va., a spokesman for Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory said Monday. Mr. Nance was among 38 National Guardsmen from the close-knit community of Bedford who were in Company A of the 116th Infantry, a spokeswoman at the National D-Day Memorial Foundation said.

Western volleyball coach Monique Butler had her team focus on two things going into last night's Baltimore City championship match - serving and passing. The visiting Doves used both to build early momentum and a lot of intensity as they avenged their only loss of the season and dealt No. 14 Poly its first loss, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21. The Doves (14-1) won their third straight city title and their 14th in the past 16 years. Since 1984, they have been in every city final, winning 17 times.
