A Maryland congressman says police are questioning a person of interest in the slaying of his nephew in Norfolk, Va. U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings said Thursday in an e-mail that a person is being questioned in the June 10 shooting death of 20-year-old Christopher Cummings. WVEC.com in Norfolk reports that police are questioning someone and said officers emphasized that no arrests have been made. Norfolk Police Department spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson did not immediately return a message left on her cell phone Thursday seeking comment.

A graphic listing 7th Congressional District candidates in yesterday's editions of The Sun contained three errors and an omission.The graphic misstated the number of Democrats running in the March 5 primary. There are 25 candidates. It should have said that Democratic candidate Lynn Sherwood Harris is male. It should have said that Del. Elijah E. Cummings lives in West Baltimore.It omitted the name of Democratic candidate Vincent R. Cuffari of Catonsville.The Sun regrets the errors.

Maryland's Republican party Monday said that a slew of Democratic elected officials, including President Barack Obama, Gov. Martin O'Malley and U.S. Rep. The town hall meeting with Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, scheduled for Jan. 22 at the Glenwood library, was canceled because of inclement weather. The meeting has been rescheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Cummings, a Democrat who represents Maryland's 7th District in the House of Representatives, will answer residents' questions and hear their concerns. The library is at 2350 Route 97, Cooksville. The funeral for the nephew of Rep. Elijah E. Cummings has been scheduled for Saturday in Baltimore, the congressman's office said Tuesday. Christopher Cummings, 20, who had just completed his junior year at Old Dominion University, was shot to death in the house where he lived with other students near the Norfolk, Va., campus. A housemate was critically wounded in the attack. Police have not identified a suspect or a motive. Public viewings for Christopher Cummings have been scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at March Funeral Home-West at 4300 Wabash Avenue.

A 26-year-old Naval Academy graduate from Howard County who realized a long-held dream of becoming a Naval aviator was killed when the jet she was piloting crashed into a field outside Spokane, Wash. Lt. j.g. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney and her two crew members died Monday morning when the EA-6B Prowler crashed during training, the Navy said Tuesday. The incident remains under investigation. Friends and family described Cappelaere Delaney as a focused, athletic and caring young woman whose career was shaped by conversations with her grandfather, a retired Air Force pilot.

Regarding your report that Rep. Elijah E. Cummings' plans to make a charitable contribution of funds donated to his campaign by Richard Stewart, the politically connected businessman who pleaded guilty to tax evasion this month ("Brown returns funds from tax evader," Dec. 28): Congressman Cummings' proposal is the same as keeping the funds. Mr. Cummings received the money and benefited from its use. Now he wants to make a charitable contribution? Does he get a tax write-off for it?
