The Havre de Grace Warriors improved to 3-1 in softball on the year with a victory Wednesday, topping the visiting Joppatowne Mariners, 21-1. The Aberdeen Eagles won three and the Perryville Panthers lost once in recent girls softball action. The Havre de Grace-Joppatowne game ended after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Warrior starter Megan Thompson tossed a no-hitter, striking out eight and issuing six walks over five innings of work. Joppatowne's lone run was scored in the second inning on two wild pitches and a passed ball.

A nearly 3-year-old child is expected to be released from the hospital in the next couple days after nearly drowning in a bathtub in her Edgewood home Monday night. The girl, 2 years and 11 months old, was in the bathtub in a home in the 1300 block of Goldmeadow Way in Edgewood around 5:45 p.m., according to Monica Worrell, a spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff's Office. She was under the supervision of her male guardian, who is her mother's boyfriend. "This is an active, ongoing investigation," Worrell said Monday night.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office has charged a homeless man with murder in the death of a 71-year-old Edgewood resident. Quintin Everett Demby, 46, was arrested Tuesday at a store in Edgewood and was being held at the Harford County Detention Center without bail. He faces first-degree murder and assault charges in the killing of 71-year-old Joseph Carpintieri, who was found dead May 2 at his home in the 1400 block of St. Mary's Court. Carpintieri died of multiple traumatic injuries, complicated by cardiovascular disease, police said.

Two teens were hospitalized after being shot in Edgewood Sunday afternoon, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said. Police received a call about a shooting in the unit block of Yorkshire Drive about 5:20 p.m., according to a statement from the sheriff's office. When deputies arrived, they found Solothol Thomas Delilly and Rashad Colyns, both 18, suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso, police said. Delilly was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was in critical but stable condition Sunday night, police said.

Two men, one armed with a handgun, forced their way into an apartment in Edgewood Sunday night and robbed four women ranging in age from 62 to 95 of pain medication, purses, money, bank cards and a cellular phone, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Department. Police said the men knocked on the door of the apartment in the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive about 10 p.m. and introduced themselves as "Junior." Police said one of the occupants has a friend by that name and opened the door.

The American Legion Hall in Edgewood collapsed under the weight of snow Wednesday and is completely destroyed. Nobody was in the hall at the time of the collapse, which happened shortly before 4 p.m.m No one was injured when the 2,500-square-foot wood frame structure caved in. Harford County fire and rescue personnel responded to the incident. A damage estimate is not yet available. Harford officials are concerned that the heavy snow will cause more flat roofs to collapse.

The Patterson Mill Huskies boys basketball team picked up a win against a Chesapeake (upper) Division opponent, dispatching the host-team North Harford Hawks, 58-40, Tuesday night. Edgewood also grabbed a Tuesday night victory, beating the Cristo Rey Jesuit team, while C. Milton Wright lost to Benjamin Franklin. With the victory, Patterson Mill (13-0 Susquehanna) improved to 16-2 overall, while North Harford (3-8 Chesapeake) fell to 8-11 on the season. The Huskies led, 31-16, at the halftime intermission.

Harford County sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police report: Aberdeen Matthew Alexander Smothers, 41, of the 200 block of Mayberry Drive, was charged Thursday with second-degree assault. Hugh James Comiskey, 55, of the first block of Franklin Street, was arrested on a bench warrant Friday in a case in which he was charged with disorderly conduct. Bryon Keith Morrison, 41, of the 300 block of Graceton Drive, was charged Monday with marijuana possession, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

A 30-year-old Harford County woman was killed Wednesday after her car collided with two other vehicles along Belair Road in Perry Hall, Baltimore County Police said. Amy Marie Thiess, of the 1900 Block of Sidnee Drive in Edgewood, died at the scene of the crash in the 9900 block of Belair Road near Perry Hall Road. Thiess was driving a Honda Accord in the southbound lane when she crossed the center line, sideswiped a northbound Toyota 4Runner and then struck a Rav4 head on at about 4 p.m., police said.

The long depressed image of Edgewood is in line for a much needed face lift with revitalization plans for the southern Harford County community.A demonstration project to spruce up the business district along U.S. 40 from Tree Top to Gateway drives, with $100,000 in state and county grants, will soon be launched.The project, which includes two of the oldest shopping centers, will bring new sidewalks, landscaping, street lighting and bus shelters to the area. School children have designed community identification banners to be hung from utility poles.
