After yesterday's field hockey game at St. Paul's, Towson defender Emily Kolarik couldn't help but think that if the game had been played at Towson, someone might have won. "If we had played on our field, we would have played overtime," said Kolarik, after the No. 2 Generals battled No. 6 St. Paul's to a 0-0 tie. "We were sort of sorry we couldn't play overtime, because the rules are different." While Baltimore County games go into overtime, Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland games do not. In cross-league games, the host team's rules prevail.

St. Paul's top-ranked field hockey team made the most of its time spent in the scoring arc yesterday afternoon at Severn. Both efficient and explosive, the Gators overwhelmed the No. 15 Admirals with three goals in a three-minute span late in the first half that led to a comfortable 6-3 win. Just after the Admirals (5-1-1) answered an early St. Paul's goal and began to settle in, the Gators (7-0) put the game away - just like that. Sarah Sloan (two goals) cleanly one-timed a shot from the left side with 6:21 left in the half and then Claire Edelen came right back with consecutive goals to make it 4-1 at the half.

Butler is a place that has no official boundaries and no local leadership. Yet, many people want to live there. "If I could satisfy half the people who wanted to live there, I'd be a very rich man," said Stephen Edelen, an agent with O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA in Hunt Valley, who has lived in Butler since 1957. The Baltimore County hamlet, sandwiched among Hunt Valley, Cockeysville and Reisterstown, has no bank or gas station. In fact, according to postal service routes - the only official definition of Butler - the town is really only a smattering of Waltons-type houses that have been converted to businesses along Falls Road.
