If you didn't tune in for last night's premiere of Michael Jackson's new video, ''Remember the Time,'' you have some xTC questions about what you missed. ''What was the story line?'' you may be wondering. ''Were the special effects good? Was Eddie Murphy funny? Could Magic Johnson act?''And did Michael grab his crotch again?''To answer the most important question first: No, he didn't grab his crotch. Nor did he trash any parked cars, or throw steering wheels or trash cans through storefront windows.

Daddy Day Care makes a mess. For starters, the film miscalculates Eddie Murphy's appeal. Regardless of how sly or even malicious his humor could be, his best roles always had an underdog appeal. But as Charlie Hinton, the once-naughty actor seems obsessed with his niceness. Upscale and self-satisfied Charlie and sidekick Phil (Jeff Garlin of TV's Curb Your Enthusiasm) are laid off from their high-paying advertising jobs. With Charlie's wife Kim (Regina King) pursuing a successful law career, Charlie stays home with their 4-year-old son Ben (Khamani Griffin)

Eddie Murphy once appeared on a "Saturday Night Live" sketch in which he went undercover as a white man. Bizarre though it may have been, that sketch was both an expression of minority paranoia and a reflection of majority racism. It was also hilarious.Andy Breckman, who wrote the famous "Mr. White" sketch, expanded the idea and adapted it as a screenplay in 1986. Five years later, that screenplay -- or, rather, a reworked version of it -- has become a movie called "True Identity."It is not hilarious.

Eddie Murphy and Jeff Garlin must be the smartest men in the entertainment world. The actors had enough brain cells to know that their Daddy Day Care was an unexpected hit in 2003. That meant pushing the premise for a sequel made about as much sense as wearing a meat bathing suit in a pool of piranhas. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Paul Rae must be the dumbest men in entertainment. Gooding adds the Daddy Day Care sequel, Daddy Day Camp, to a resume that includes Rat Race, Boat Trip and Norbit. These awful efforts have come along since he picked up the best supporting actor Oscar for his work in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire.

Mike Myers is just fine as the hero, but Eddie Murphy puts the kick back into sidekick in "Shrek," a computer-animated burlesque fairy tale that generates more belly laughs than any live-action comedy since "Best in Show." Myers stars as the title ogre, a green-skinned misanthrope who sets out to free Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from a lava-ringed castle guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. He does so on one condition: that the lord of the realm, a mini-potentate named Farquaad (John Lithgow)

Pop Music Critic12 INCHES OF SNOWSnow (EastWest 92207)Is Snow the new Vanilla Ice? Dancehall fans may well think so, given the way his hit, "Informer," climbed the charts faster than anything by Shabba Ranks or Mad Cobra. But as much light-weight pop as there is on "12 Inches of Snow," it seems unlikely that Snow will melt away as easily as Vanilla Ice did. For one thing, there's nothing second-hand about Snow's hard-core side -- songs like "Runway" and "Lonely Monday Morning" not only capture the patois and cadences of Jamaican dancehall artists, but convey much the same worldview.
