Who doesn't need more bling these days? And what better way to impress your friends than flashing a genuine, diamond-studded Ravens Super Bowl XXXV ring? Right now, it can be yours for a little more than $8,000. OK, maybe that's not exactly a steal. But that's the current bidding price at Lelands.com, where the ring is being auctioned. Here's the back-story, though: the ring doesn't belong to a former player. The name “Dickson” is inscribed on it. But it doesn't belong to current tight end Ed Dickson, who was still a kid when the Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2001.

With the start of NFL free agency 11 days away and all of the team's unrestricted free agents remaining unsigned, the Ravens could soon make tough roster cuts to create more cap space. This is not an easy thing for the front office to do in any year, but especially so after lifting the Lombardi Trophy just a few weeks ago. One of those salary cap casualties could be All-Pro fullback Vonta Leach, who is regarded by pundits and his peers as the NFL's best at his position. For two seasons, Leach has dented facemasks while plowing open running lanes for fellow Pro Bowl back Ray Rice, but violent blockers like Leach are being phased out of the NFL. It has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with teams eschewing power runs for quick passes.

If you are one of the local football fans who has been chomping at the bit to see the Baltimore Ravens in action since the 2011-12 season closed, you might not have to wait another four months to do so - several of the purple-clothed heroes will be at Ripken Stadium Sunday for the Lardarius Webb Charity Softball Classic. In addition to Webb, who began organizing the games in 2010, Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco, running back Ray Rice, wide receiver Torrey Smith, tight end Ed Dickson, cornerback Jimmy Smith, cornerback Cary Williams and wide receiver Anquan Boldin are slated to compete in Sunday's contest.

Just two days ago, the Ravens wrapped another successful draft, selecting a 10-player class that is being hailed as one of the weekend's best by many analysts. Next there are minicamps, offseason workouts and later a training camp to be conducted, and eventually, football games will be played. But who cares about all that? OK, fine, that stuff is important, too, I guess. But since the NFL draft is still fresh in our minds -- and since draftniks are already releasing their premature lists of the top prospects in next year's draft -- let's take a look at what the Ravens might be targeting in 2014.

Inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and tight end Ed Dickson were knocked out of Sunday's game with injuries, but Harbaugh said tests confirmed that neither injury was serious. He expects both to be “very limited” in practice throughout the week. “We'll just have to see how it goes,” he said. “We'll try to get them to the game on Sunday.” Dickson sprained his knee and Ellerbe injured his right foot or ankle, according to Harbaugh. In other injury news, Harbaugh said he is hopeful that defensive end Pernell McPhee, who has missed four straight games with injuries to his right knee and right thigh, can play this weekend.

POSITION: Cornerback. The Ravens have rotated starters throughout the preseason, but Cary Williams and rookie first-round pick Jimmy Smith have been the most impressive. Domonique Foxworth has struggled since coming back from major knee surgery, and Chris Carr has been limited in training camp with a hamstring injury. VETERAN: Tight end Kris Wilson. The eight-year journeyman has become the favorite to be the top backup behind Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta. He is tied for the Ravens lead with seven catches, and his 83 yards receiving tops all of the team's tight ends.

The Ravens had eight players not participating in the early portion of today's practice and all were expected absences. Those eight players are wide receiver David Reed (knee), tight ends Ed Dickson (shoulder) and Dennis Pitta (broken hand), offensive tackle Jah Reid (calf), linebackers Josh Bynes (back) and Terrell Suggs (Achilles), defensive end Pernell McPhee (personal matter) and defensive tackle Ryan McBean (ankle). Coach John Harbaugh said yesterday that McPhee is away from the team to deal with a death in his family.
