Also Stephanie Eberly, five grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Paige, Frederick and Crystal and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Eberly passed January 25, 2010 at Stella Maris Hospice.

Donna Lynn Eber, a senior patient trainer and a horseback riding enthusiast, died April 6 at Casey House, a Rockville hospice, from complications of a heart attack suffered last month. The Woodbine, Howard County resident was 46. Donna Lynn Jones was born in Baltimore and raised in Columbia's Village of Oakland Mills. The 1982 graduate of Oakland Mills High School began riding during her teenage years, eventually becoming a horseback riding instructor of those physically challenged at the Columbia Horse Center.

Phyllis Scott was waiting for the day her son would be released from prison to return to East Baltimore, and she hoped he could steer clear of trouble in the future. But that day never came. Malcolm Jerrod "Rod" Pridget, who was just shy of his 20th birthday, left the Western Correctional Institution in late November in critical condition after sustaining severe head injuries in his cell. He died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center a couple of days later - another victim in a recent spate of deadly violence in the state's prisons.

The Sheppard Pratt Health System announced yesterday that it has launched a free phone consultation service for physicians, called Consult-Line.Physicians with questions about patients with behavioral or substance-abuse problems can get a return call from the Sheppard Pratt staff psychiatrist.Mark R. Eber, a Sheppard Pratt spokesman, said the calls would be fielded by the same counselors who answer calls from the public for Sheppard's therapy-referral service. The counselor would then locate a staff psychiatrist to consult with the doctor.

The County Council, caught between a rock and a hard place, reluctantly gave way to the rock last week, deciding that two of nine families on Old Joppa Road who had requested public water hookups will have to do without.Between 1987 and August 1989, seven of nine homes on the street were hooked up to county water service. But the project stalled before the homes of Loy and Ava Heare and their neighbor, Mary Eber, could be hooked into the county water system.The problem? Rock. Lots of it. With 200 feet of pipe left to be laid before the two homes could be hooked up, county workers hit bedrock in the bottom of a stream.

Neither rain, nor mud, nor bolt of lightning could stop the Liberty High Marching Band in Saturday's Freestate Spectacular VII band competition at the University of Maryland's Byrd Stadium.Under the direction of first-year director Bryan Eber, the Lions captured their fifth title in the competition's seven-year history, including its third consecutive crown.Liberty compiled 87.7 points out of 100 possible in the 13-school Group III competition, which consisted of bands with 55 to 80 members.
