Eastern Avenue

I get that tourist thing a lot. People call and ask for tips on where to take out-of-town visitors to hear good music or eat good food or absorb great atmosphere, or an out-of-town visitor will ask me to explain something that strikes him as odd, such as all those black-and-white "Believe" signs or that giant, aluminum man-woman statue in front of the train station. (Some things can't be explained.) And it's OK. No problem. I enjoy doing this. I caught a lot of the tourist thing in just the last few days.

On November 25, 2005, PETE KAMBOURIS, beloved son of Dorothy Gitsas and the late Steve Kambouris, devoted father of Steven and Alex Kambouris, dear nephew of Pauline Paparounis, loving friend of Linda Tavenner. On October 31, 2005 JAMES E. SR. beloved husband of Nancy Ewing; loving son of Katherine Ewing and the late George Ewing; devoted father of James Jr., Anthony and George Ewing, Patricia Corona, Michael Ewing, Daniel Brooks and Valerie Aguirre. On October 16, 2005, RICHARD HILLMAN, beloved husband of Carolyn Hillman (nee Blazemore); dear brother of Sylvia Alspaugh. Also survived by twelve children, thirty-six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Memorials in his name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1704 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, MD 21221 would be appreciated.

Gerhard K. Kadolph, a pastry chef and baker who worked at Dundalk and Highlandtown establishments and made the signature strawberry pie for the old Haussner's Restaurant, died of an infection May 20 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The Dundalk resident was 79. Born in the Pomerania district of what was then eastern Germany and is now Poland, he became a bakery apprentice at 14. He worked alongside his uncle, also a baker, in Eberswalde near Berlin learning the trade. Drafted into the German navy at the end of World War II, Mr. Kadolph was assigned to a tugboat on the coast of the Netherlands.
