High winds have prevented Bay Bridge authorities from opening up an additional travel lane to eastbound traffic. Typically, during the evening rush hour one lane of the westbound span is dedicated to eastbound traffic unless winds make it unsafe for opposing traffic to travel in the same span. The two-way operations were ended shortly after 4 p.m. The Maryland Transportation Authority will continue to monitor winds speeds and open an additional eastbound lane if possible Wednesday evening.

A man who was speeding and swerving down Route 100 in Pasadena died after hitting a tree Wednesday afternoon, police said. Police have been unable to identify the driver, whose body was taken to the chief medical examiner's office for an autopsy, Maryland State Police said in a statement. The man was the only person in the pickup, police said, and he was not the registered owner. Police do not think the truck was stolen. About 4:30 p.m., a state trooper from the Glen Burnie Barrack saw a blue 1998 Dodge Dakota truck swerving within a lane on Route 10 near Route 648, police said.
