POLICE* Westminster: An employee of the Granite House on North Court Street reported that someone damaged a company vehicle parked on a nearby parking lot Monday. The damage was estimated at $380.Two residents told police their bicycles were stolen from the rear of East Main Street Monday. The bikes were valued at a total of $380.A Shaeffer Avenue of reported that his car was damaged while parked near his home Sunday. The damage was estimated at $100.A resident of Manassas, Va., told police that property was stolen from his room at the Comfort Inn Sunday.

POLICE* Westminster: Carroll County Landscaping of Old Westminster Pike told city police Wednesday that a cellular phone, valued at $1,200, was taken from one of its vehicles parked on East Main Street.C & P Telephone of East Main Street reported to city police Friday that a tag was removed from one of its vehicles. No loss estimate was given.An Old Taneytown Road resident told city police Saturday that two tires on her car were punctured while it was parked in the Diffendal lot. Loss was estimated at $200.

A man pursued by at least a half-dozen people after a Monday night purse-snatching on East Main Street in Westminster was held on $50,000 bond yesterday after being charged with robbery, theft and two counts each of assault and battery.City police identified the suspect as Brian Wayne Leonard, 26, of the 100 block of E. Nicodemus Road.Police said an assailant had approached Josephine Schaeffer about 7 p.m. Monday as she was getting out of a car at the Fletcher Funeral Home in the 200 block of E. Main St., grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground.

The damage was estimated at $139.A resident of East Main Street reported to city police that someone stole a 26-inch girl's bicycle from the rear of the house Saturday. The 10-speed bike was valued at $100.FIRE* Sandymount: Reese responded to a brush fire in the 2400 block of Carzil Drive at 5:13 p.m. Monday. Units were out one hour.* Westminster: Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester were dispatched to investigate a fire alarm sounding in an apartment building in the first block of Wimert Avenue at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday.

FIRE* Mount Airy: Mount Airy firefighters were dispatched to a basement fire in the 900 block of Watersville Road East at 11:08 p.m. Thursday. They were out 19 minutes.Mount Airy firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on East Main Street in New Market, Frederick County, at 3:40 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters were out 20 minutes.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) will close Pennsylvania Avenue between Union Street and Sullivan Avenue April 24 to rip up and rebuild the Westminster street.The construction is the second section of a project to install storm drains and a water main, and rebuild Pennsylvania Avenue from The Forks to the edge of the city. The first section was completed in 1990."We feel we can have it completed in one construction season" by closing the street, said Eric Eckhardt, SHA's area reconstruction engineer.
