It was a profitable weekend for former Woodbine resident Cris Eash, with $3,500 in prize money for a victory in the 30-lap Daryl Gohn Memorial sprint feature at Williams Grove Speedway and second Harry's U-Pull-It June Shoot-out at Selinsgrove Speedway last weekend.Despite a red flag with three laps to go, Eash decided not to do anything in the pits."All we did was add fuel," said Eash. "It was working good all night, so we just hoped it would stay together for three more laps."Driving his E & G Classics No. 17E, Eash took off at the green flag and stayed in front for his sixth career victory and $3,000 for first place at Williams Grove on June 26.Upperco resident Jeff Shepard was third in the same race and collected $1,300 in prize money.

Former Woodbine resident Cris Eash finished fourth in the drivers' standings, and his father, Dave, who owns the car, held the same spot in the owners' rankings in the 1991 WSBA Busch Cup Racing Series for sprints.The rankings were based on weekly performances at four south central Pennsylvania tracks -- Lincoln, Selinsgrove, Williams Grove and Port Royal -- starting in the spring.Finksburg's Jeff Shepard was 14th in the drivers' standings, and his father, Judd Shepard II, the car's owner, was 14th in the owners'rankings.

Westminster's Gary Stuhler continued his winning season with a victory at Williams Grove Speedway Aug. 7.Stuhler won the super stock late-model feature as well as winning the heat.Hampstead's Charlie Schaffer took third place in the same race to continue his impressive season.The following night, Stuhler finished third in the 72-lap Paul Jonson Memorial for late models at the Winchester (Va.) Speedway.Schaffer placed fifth in the Johnson memorial.* Cris Eash, a former Woodbine resident now residing in Hanover, Pa., was sixth in the super sprint feature at Susquehanna Speedway last Sunday.

J. R. Gonyea of Mount Airy finished second recently in the Top Dragster Class at the International Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals at Darlington, S.C. Gonyea took home $2,600 for his efforts. He neededto qualify for this event and did so with a time of 7.69 seconds. Gonyea fell to the defending champion in the final.Overall, 32 carsraced in the field.Jim Fleming of Union Bridge competed in the Top Sportsman Class in his Firebird Top Gun. Fleming qualified, but lost in the second round.

Westminster's Brad McClelland got his third feature win of the season May 21 at Trail-Way Speedway in the 20-lap micro sprint feature.McClelland and Mike Stull, another Westminster resident, both won their heats.Hagerstown Speedway and Westminster's Gary Stuhler seem to together. Stuhler dominated the field as he won the Shorty Bowers/Bull Durham Memorial last Saturday in the 35-lap feature for superstock late models.It was the fourth win of the season for Stuhler at Hagerstown as he also won his heat.

Westminster's Chuck Taylor won the Class I race at 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia, Frederick County, last weekend.Taylor advanced through seven rounds in his Ford Pinto in the July 4 competition. In the finals, Taylor won with an estimated dial in of 10.8 seconds and an elapsed time of 10.81 in the quarter-mile. Taylor is in the top 16 drivers in his class and will represent 75-80 at the Bracket Finals at Maple Grove Speedway in Reading, Pa., in September.Tom Humm of Taneytown won the July 4 Class II event in his Ford Falcon and Rick Waxter of Westminster was runner-up in his Plymouth Baracuda.

Gov. Martin O'Malley and former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. each attempted the political equivalent of spinning gold out of the straw of the recession during back-to-back visits to Columbia. With the downturn hurting businesses across the state, Ehrlich concentrated on job losses and business difficulties during a visit Thursday to E&G Classics in East Columbia as a way to gain political advantage, while O'Malley sought to excite 150 Democrats at the Lakefront on Wednesday with recent job gains, the state's good schools and other achievements in the face of national economic adversity.

Westminster's Gary Stuhler ran out of track before he could close in on Denny Bonebrake in the Hoosier Tire late-model 25-lap feature at Hagerstown Speedway on April 17.Stuhler had won his heat and fought his way through the pack to close within three seconds of Bonebrake in the last lap, but couldn't make up the distance.Despite the second-place finish, Stuhler leads in the track's point standings with 2,000.Hampstead's Charlie Schaffer also made a late charge in the late-model feature at Winchester Speedway last Sunday.
