EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The screen door slammed Thursday night, and I was a Jersey girl again. Not the Jersey girl I once was, a four-eyed chub with the bathing-suit blues, but the one I once wished I could be, cruising down the boardwalk with my friends, a curfew just beyond the horizon, my mind spinning with top-10 lyrics and an awesome case of entitlement. That's the beauty of Bruce Springsteen. He doesn't sing for the kids who are already having a great time; he sings for the ones who lie in bed at night dreaming about what they think they're missing.

It used to be that the pop-music business ran in predictable, seasonal cycles. In the first few months of the year, the emphasis was on "baby bands," the new groups that needed exposure and word-of-mouth to build an audience. Then, as winter rolled into spring, the road bands - mainly hard rockers and veteran acts - flooded the stores with albums they would promote through lengthy summer tours. Once the weather warmed up, the stress would shift to singles, as every act with a potential summer hit fought for time on the radio.

Belvedere Square wraps up its outdoor series of concerts on film with a documentary of Bruce Springsteen rocking out in Dublin. In We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, cameras follow the Boss and the Session Band on the final stop of the 2006 tour. The original album was a favorite of many critics, and the tour ramped up the material creatively. But the Seeger Sessions may put off Springsteen purists. The tour featured music by radical folk musician Pete Seeger, not songs penned by the Boss himself; the E-Street Band is nowhere to be found.

Goodbye, goodbye! Season finales abound tonight, along with one series ender. Rock fans also take note: Some never-before-telecast music and conversation from Bruce Springsteen arrive on cable.* "Mad About You" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- This series' charm stems from the fact that Paul and Jamie (Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt) seem like real spouses. Tonight's extended season finale plays the old "what if?" game most spouses know well. When they learn that the place where they met is gone, we view a fantasy life in which they have not gotten together.
