DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Outwardly, Dylan Bundy made it clear that he came to his second big league spring training with the goal of winning a starting rotation spot with the Orioles. But despite the tremendous amount of upside and talent the organization's top prospects possesses, it quickly became clear that Bundy being sent to the minors was less a question of if than when. With two weeks remaining in spring training and Orioles pitchers beginning to get stretched out for the regular season, Grapefruit League innings are suddenly becoming scarce.

The Orioles are in such a strange position right now that it's hard to predict what they'll do in several areas. One is September call-ups. Manager Buck Showalter isn't showing his hand. It's obvious he would love to have super prospect Dylan Bundy at his disposal next month. The 19-year-old Bundy pitches Sunday for Double-A Bowie, and, honestly, it's becoming increasingly apparent that if the Orioles are still in the race - and they'd have to absolutely collapse not to be by next week - Bundy will be here.

High-A Frederick starter Dylan Bundy threw five scoreless innings against Myrtle Beach on Saturday. The club's top pitching prospect allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two. He got the win to improve to 3-2 with a 3.42 ERA in six starts for the Keys. He was coming off a scoreless inning in Tuesday's California-Carolina League All-Star Game in Winston-Salem, N.C. On Thursday, he and top position prospect Manny Machado were named to the U.S. team for next month's All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City.

The Orioles' top pitching prospect, right-hander Dylan Bundy, ran his hitless streak to start his pro career to nine innings, throwing three hitless innings Tuesday in his home debut for Class-A Delmarva against Hagerstown. Bundy struck out three on the night, so he's tallied 15 strikeouts in nine innings. Bundy allowed his first baserunner of the season --27 batters into his pro career -- with a two-out walk in the third inning. The radio broadcast at Delmarva said Bundy hit 102 mph on the radar gun, but the Shorebirds Twitter said Bundy was clocked at 98.

He isn't a part of the Orioles' postseason push, but Dylan Bundy was a playoff winner Wednesday night, pitching Double-A Bowie to a 4-2 win over Akron in Game 1 of their Eastern League playoff series at Prince George's Stadium. The Orioles' top prospect allowed one run on six hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking just one. Bundy's only run allowed came on a homer by Matt Lawson in the top of the second inning. Rhyne Hughes' two-run homer in the fourth gave Bowie the lead, and Ronnie Welty and Ty Kelly added solo home runs for the Baysox.

Heading into Wednesday night's start in Lynchburg, Dylan Bundy had never gone deeper than five innings in a professional game. But his 6 2/3 innings of work in High-A Frederick's 7-1 win over the Hillcats showed that the Orioles' top prospect was ready for the increased workload. Bundy allowed one unearned run on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced and left with two outs in the seventh after reaching a predetermined pitch count, according to the Keys' twitter feed.

Buck Showalter had initially said that top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy was seeing renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday, but the manager told reporters after Wednesday's game that he misspoke about Bundy's schedule. Showalter said Bundy is scheduled to see Andrews in Florida on Monday for a second opinion on his right arm tightness, and he will see Orioles team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens on Thursday. Wilckens evaluated Bundy and read an MRI back on April 4 before the right-hander was placed on the seven-day minor league disabled list.

Orioles top prospect Dylan Bundy, shelved since March with right arm tightness, was scheduled to see renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday in Gulf Breeze, Fla., to get a second opinion on what's causing his ongoing discomfort. “We hope to find out that [Andrews] feels the same way that our people do [who] have looked at it,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “We're very supportive of it.” The organization has been deliberate with Bundy's recovery, but the move to seek a second opinion came a day after the right-hander felt lingering discomfort while throwing from 90 feet off flat ground at the team's spring training complex in Sarasota, Fla. It was the first time he had thrown that far since going on the seven-day minor league disabled list April 4. Bundy hasn't pitched from a mound since late March.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Orioles designated hitter Wilson Betemit underwent successful exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday. The procedure isn't expected to extend Betemit's initial recovery time of six to eight weeks from a Grade 2/3 posterior cruciate ligament tear in the knee. “They went in just to look and repair a couple of minor things, so everything in there was good news," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday. “The anterior cruciate ligament is really good and the PCL looks like it's going to heal.
