Last night we were trying to come up with some good family-friendly movies to watch while hunkered down during the snow storm, and for the days afterward while we're mostly home. I asked friends for suggestions, given these parameters: It had to not have too much kissing (so my 11-year-old son wouldn't puke) and not too much scariness (so my 8-year-old daughter wouldn't have nightmares) and no Pixars because I think we've seen them all. Here are some of the suggestions we received, in no particular order: Secret of Kells The Princess Bride Short Circuit School of Rock Nacho Libre My Neighbor Totoro Spirited Away* Sky High Minute Men The Secret of Roan Inish How to Train Your Dragon Princess Mononoke Enders Game Parental Guidance Bend it Like Beckham Bad News Bears Herbie Space Balls Star Wars Iron Giant Hugo TinTin Howl's Moving Castle Hunger Games Despicable Me 2 Harry Potter(s)

FEVER PITCH [Fox], $30 Although Peter and Bobby Farrelly's romantic baseball comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon hit a home run with many critics, the DVD strikes out in its extras. It's strictly minor league - an unfunny, crass gag reel, obligatory deleted scenes, two featurettes that were produced for the Internet, another featurette that aired on cable and surprisingly dull commentary with the brothers. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy [Touchstone], $30 Douglas Adams' cult sci-fi comedy book, radio play and TV series has been transformed into an offbeat - to put it mildly - feature film starring Martin Freeman from The Office.

According to WWE DVD News, a new Ultimate Warrior WWE DVD has been scheduled for an April 2014 release. This is big news, considering the circumstances.  The man also known as Jim Hellwig has consistently said publicly that the "Self Destruction of Ultimate Warrior" DVD that WWE released in 2005 was one of the major points of dissension between him and the company. With a new DVD being released, it could heal this old wound, particularly if Warrior is involved in the project.

Damien Sandow is at an exciting point in his career. Here he is, the Money in the Bank briefcase holder for a guaranteed shot at the world heavyweight title, and the face of WWE -- John Cena -- just became the world heavyweight champion. As a superstar on the rise, you can't ask for a better opportunity to crack the main event. During a phone interview Monday, Sandow, largely in character, didn't let on any excitement about this fact, but he spoke about cashing in against Cena.

After the Ravens celebrated the release of their Super Bowl DVD Monday, not everyone was ready to go home. Ray Lewis and Joe Flacco kept the party rolling, heading over to Chazz: A Bronx Original in Harbor East . Chazz manager Peter Stala tells Insider that the Ravens arrived at the restaurant after 8 p.m., settling into the private dining room. "They were in good spirits," he said. "They'd just been watching their Super Bowl run on the DVD and were having a good time.

On Monday night, Baltimore did the traditional red carpet one better, with a purple carpet laid out at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric for the VIP premiere screening of the official NFL "Super Bowl XLVII Champions: 2012 Baltimore Ravens" DVD. The scene beforehand had some of its own highlights. Joe Flacco, accompanied by wife Dana, was the first to arrive on the purple carpet, although not much of the carpet itself was visible thanks to the many media types who immediately swamped the Super Bowl MVP. Ray Ricebrought along 1-year-old daughter Rayven, who posed for the paparazzi like a pro, modeling a cute purple floral frock.

You don't have to be a serious fan to know the NFL Films look and sound. Stunning shots of overcast skies hanging low over packed stadiums are accompanied by tympanies rumbling and choral voices soaring as a perfect spiral sails in slow motion through the lights down into the heavenward-stretched hands of an airborne receiver. And that lyricism is juxtaposed with the most in-your-face mud, blood, grime and grit, hand-held close-ups you will ever see on a screen. Sometimes it feels as if you are in the middle of the mayhem on the field.

In addition to the relentless onslaught of mostly negative ads from the Romney and Obama campaigns and their affiliated super PACs, the good people of Ohio are finding themselves targeted by a right-wing conspiracy maven who is dispensing a DVD that pushes beyond the birthers into a new level of paranoid fantasy. "Dreams From My Real Father" is being sent to a million Ohio voters. The DVD makes the claim that, rather than being the son of a student from Kenya, the president was sired by a communist from Chicago named Frank Marshall Davis.

Makes no bones about it - "No Holds Barred" is not a great movie. So why did WWE decide to digitally remaster the 1989 film and release it on DVD (out today) and why would it interest you? "No Holds Barred" falls in the category of movies that have a cult following probably for the wrong reasons - it's campy, over the top, unintentionally funny. Yet somehow it selects the perfect slices of cheese that you sample and can't stop eating. After an hour-and-a-half, you're left wondering how you were able to sit through the entire movie, but are glad you did and anxiously find others who have as well to share stories.
