Esther F. Dubin, a retired coronary care nurse whose career spanned more than four decades, died Sunday of Alzheimer's disease at her Mount Washington home. She was 69. The daughter of Charles Farber, an Internal Revenue Service agent, and Jessie Farber, a homemaker, Esther Frances Faga Eta Elaine Farber was born in Baltimore and raised on Pimlico Road. She was a 1962 graduate of Milford Mill High School and graduated in 1965 from Sinai Hospital's School of Nursing. She spent nearly her entire career in coronary care nursing at Sinai Hospital, where she was the first head nurse of the hospital's coronary care step-down unit.

Bobbi Elizabeth Dubin, a substance abuse counselor whose way of "just making people feel good" helped hundreds of clients during her 16-year career with area mental health and addiction programs, died of cancer Mondayat Gilchrist Center of Greater Baltimore Medical Center.Mrs. Dubin, who was 62, lived in Towson and worked most recently as director of the substance abuse program at Pathfinder Health Services in Towson. Illness forced her to retire in May.Jan Wilson, Mrs. Dubin's supervisor at Pathfinder, said she could be stern but compassionate when dealing with clients with drug and alcohol addictions.

Charles T. Dubin, a retired attorney and auditor, died Friday at the Deaton Specialty Hospital and Home of injuries suffered after being hit by a car while crossing Harford Road on March 2. He was 88 and lived in Parkville. Mr. Dubin retired about 25 years ago from the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, where he was an attorney and auditor. Born in Baltimore and raised on Aisquith Street, he was a 1932 graduate of City College. He earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland, College Park and received his law degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1943.

The J. L. Wickham Co. has sold a 30 percent interest in the company to private investors in return for $3.45 million, the Baltimore-based machine toolmaker announced yesterday.Steve Dubin, Wickham's chief financial officer, said yesterday that the 85-employee company needed working capital so it could expand.The machines Wickham produces -- which companies such as General Motors Corp. buy to make metal parts -- are expensive, and Wickham needs cash to be able to take new orders, Mr. Dubin said.

Maryland's manufacturing industry continued to shrink over the past year, shedding 3,856 jobs and 114 manufacturers during the 12 months ended in May 2006, according to a company that tracks its comings and goings. Many of the job losses can be attributed to new technology and outsourcing, said Tom Dubin, president of Evanston, Ill.-based Manufacturers' News Inc., which has conducted an annual survey of the industry since 1912. "Manufacturing output is as high as ever," Dubin said. "Companies are leaner and meaner these days."

Baltimore County police were looking last night for a suspect and motive in the slaying of a 23-year-old Cedarcroft woman who was found shot in her car in the parking lot of York Road Plaza early yesterday.Joann E. LeCornu of the 600 block of Gittings Ave. was found in her white Honda Civic after employees at the Giant food store called police at 3:41 a.m. to report the sound of gunshots, police said.Detectives said Ms. LeCornu was shot in the parking lot of the Caldor store across the street from the grocery store and somehow drove into the parking lot of York Road Plaza.
