The Rev. Theodora J. "Dora" McLean, a registered nurse who was a founder and associate pastor of Christian Unity Temple Christian Community Church, died July 22 at Sinai Hospital of complications from a stroke. The Halethorpe resident was 82. The daughter of a blacksmith and a homemaker, she was born Theodora J. Jackson, one of 10 children in the family, in Nelson County, Va., where she was raised and graduated in 1950 from Nelson County High School. She moved to Baltimore and in 1950 married Joseph Lee McLean Sr., who worked at Eastern Stainless Steel Co. Mrs. McLean and her husband were members of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church of Baltimore and were founding members with an older sister, the late Rev. Maude H. Coleman, of Christian Unity Temple in 1966.

Editor's note: One couple's wishes for their only child come true. One day, from the deepest, darkest, most frightening part of the forest, a man and a woman heard a painful cry. They ran toward the sound and found a dark and beautiful witch caught in a hunter's trap. "If you release me," the witch cried, "I will grant you three wishes." The man and the woman set her free. "We want to have a child," they said. That was their first wish. Their second wish was to protect their child from all that was evil or sad in the world.

Dora the Explorer, an animated, 7-year-old expeditionist whose backpacking adventures have made her a darling among preschool youngsters, is currently starring at Baltimore's National Aquarium. The Nick Jr. children's television network character teams up with cousin Diego in the film "Dora & Diego's 4-D Adventure: Catch that Robot Butterfly!" at the aquarium's 4-D Immersion Theater. The film is scheduled to be shown all month. Daily shows began this week and a Diego costumed character will make a special appearance at the aquarium Saturday and Sunday.

Preschoolers who journey with Nick Jr. characters such as Dora and Kai-lan on animated adventures can follow them to the live stage this weekend at the Hippodrome. "Storytime Live!" features characters and stories from four popular Nick Jr. shows: "Dora the Explorer," "The Backyardigans," "The Wonder Pets!" and "Ni Hao, Kai-lan." The live performance will include popular songs from the shows, as well as new music created for the tour. "It's like a Broadway musical for young people," said Sam Scalamoni, 47, director of "Storytime Live!"
