On nights like these, Daniel Cabrera usually dominates. On the occasions this season before last night, when his normally erratic control is good enough, when he is not handing out walks at a prodigious rate, Cabrera had gone deep into games and held offenses to a minimum. But last night, the Florida Marlins defied what has been true about Cabrera this season in the same way they are starting to defy their hideously low expectations. The hottest team in the major leagues pounded the Orioles right-hander for six earned runs and a career-worst three home runs and got a solid outing from ace Dontrelle Willis en route to a franchise-record-tying ninth straight win, a 6-2 decision before 18,333 at Camden Yards.

Key swing First baseman Jason Wood hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning off reliever Freddy Deza to give the host Florida Marlins an 8-6 victory in the Orioles' exhibition opener in Jupiter, Fla. Pitchers are traditionally ahead of hitters at this point, but that wasn't the case yesterday, as the teams combined for 23 hits, 12 coming from the Orioles.

Well, here they are: He can earn $2 million if he makes weight during six weigh-ins - and that would be incentive enough for me to drive past Taco Bell at 2 a.m. He also has innings-pitched bonuses starting at 130 and going up in 10-inning, $375,000 increments to 200. And he receives $1 million if he gets one Cy Young Award...

The Detroit Tigers placed left-hander Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list with an anxiety disorder Sunday and put oft-injured reliever Joel Zumaya on the list with a sore right shoulder. General manager Dave Dombrowski said he remains "fairly optimistic" that Willis will return to the major leagues this year. Willis said he has been feeling well on and off the mound. "I'm never depressed at all," he said. "... This is not something where I'm too amped up, I don't know where I'm at, and I'm running sprints up and down the parking lot. ... [The doctors]
