INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The sweat beaded off Baron Davis' beard in a steady stream. First one drop, then another. With every word, every jaw movement, the sweat poured off his face until it looked like he was raining. It's hard work digging through your past — especially when you're digging on bad knees and a bad back. Davis seems invigorated by the work he has done with the Cavaliers the past few weeks. He says he is "rediscovering" things in his game that were absent during his time with the Clippers.

Carmelo Anthony, at the center of swirling trade rumors, said Monday at the Denver Nuggets' media day that he never asked to be traded. "I'm leaving my options open right now," said Anthony, who will be a free agent after the coming season. "At the end of the season, I'll sit down with my team, I'll sit down with the Nuggets, and we'll talk about it. This has been a long summer. I'm just excited to get back to the court. " Anthony, a former Towson Catholic star, turned down a three-year, $65 million extension from the Nuggets during the offseason.

Larry Brown has a message for Allen Iverson : Don't give up. Iverson's former coach said Friday he thinks the 10-time All-Star "still has a passion to play" and shouldn't retire. An online report this week indicated Iverson had decided to end his career after receiving little interest from NBA teams. Brown, who coached Iverson in Philadelphia when he was voted league MVP in 2001 while leading the 76ers to the NBA Finals, said he's been trying to get in touch with him. "Anybody that knows him understands how much he loves to play," said Brown, now coaching the Bobcats.

Don Nelson set the NBA career record for victories in the Golden State Warriors' 116-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, earning No. 1,333 to surpass Lenny Wilkens . Nelson is 1,333-1,061 in 31 seasons on the bench. "It's just such a neat feeling," Nelson said. "This is probably why we end up coaching, for moments like this." College baseball: Salisbury (19-5, 11-3 Capital Athletic Conference) lost, 24-5, to visiting York (16-9, 11-5). The margin of defeat was the Sea Gulls' largest in 10 years.

The Nets won for the first time this season, ending the worst start in NBA history at 18 losses by beating the Bobcats 97-91 on Friday night in East Rutherford, N.J. Brook Lopez had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Courtney Lee scored a career-high 27 points in his return to the starting lineup in the Nets' first game under Kiki Vandeweghe , their general manager who will coach the rest of the season. Fans stood and cheered as the Nets won for the first time since April 13, when they also beat the Bobcats.

Tracy McGrady returned to practice Monday for the first time since undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee in February, but the seven-time All-Star doesn't know when he will play for the Rockets. McGrady said he's "ready to play basketball," but the Rockets aren't so certain. McGrady said the difference of opinion is not a problem, but he's upset people have faulted him for wanting to return now. "Everybody wants to make a big deal that I'm this diva. ... It's crazy," McGrady said.

The Warriors will reportedly replace head coach Don Nelson with assistant Keith Smart with the move coming on Monday at the team's media day. Several media sources reported the move Thursday. Nelson, who has one season and $6 million left on his contract with the team, will reportedly resign and agree to a settlement package. It'll be the first big front office move for the Warriors under their new ownership group. The 70-year-old Nelson is the NBA's all-time wins leader as a head coach.

This isn't just any circus trip for the Bulls, it's the 10-year anniversary of their first after Michael Jordan left … when they went 0-7 … starting their five-year, 0-32 run. Of course, their last five were way better (9-24) showing they're on their way back. Of course, at this rate it may take a while. This is no go-for-broke organization, but which one in Chicago ever was? The town always has belonged to the owners, as fans picked up the pieces of their broken hearts and supported Phil Wrigley, William Wirtz, the McCaskeys and, uh, fans.
