A groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility for The Church of Christ in Woodlawn is scheduled at 2 p.m. tomorrow. The new church building will be at 6730 Dogwood Road. Church Design Concepts of Eagleville, Tenn., will oversee construction, which is to be completed in the fall. The Rev. Elmer V. Sembly III now conducts services at the Gala Center in Woodlawn.

The 18th Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast will be held Jan. 4 at Martin's West, 6817 Dogwood Road in Woodlawn. The speaker will be Harry E. Johnson Sr., general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the country's oldest African-American fraternity. The Morgan State University choir and jazz ensemble will perform. The event, from 9 a.m. to noon, is sponsored by the Howard L. Cornish Metropolitan Baltimore Chapter of the Morgan State Alumni Association. Tickets are $40, and proceeds will benefit the chapter's scholarship fund.
