A groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility for The Church of Christ in Woodlawn is scheduled at 2 p.m. tomorrow. The new church building will be at 6730 Dogwood Road. Church Design Concepts of Eagleville, Tenn., will oversee construction, which is to be completed in the fall. The Rev. Elmer V. Sembly III now conducts services at the Gala Center in Woodlawn.

State Police say four people died over the weekend in traffic accidents, the latest being a Baltimore County man who apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his car in Gambrills about 11:15 a.m. yesterday.Anne Arundel County police say the driver, Darry Mervin Harrod, 38, of the 5400 block of Dogwood Road in Woodlawn, was driving on Crain Highway near Church View Road in Gambrills when the car left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.Harrod was pronounced dead at North Arundel Hospital about an hour later.

Esther Mae Williams Davis, December 9, 1941 to October 10, 2008, age 66, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, October 10, 2008 after a long illness. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing of the remains. The grave-side memorial service will be held at King Memorial Park, 8710 Dogwood Road, Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday October 18th from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. Donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Esther M. Davis. The family is receiving cards in c/o Mrs. Kim W. Barnes, 2404 Adventura Lane E. , Wilson, NC 27893.

The 18th Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast will be held Jan. 4 at Martin's West, 6817 Dogwood Road in Woodlawn. The speaker will be Harry E. Johnson Sr., general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the country's oldest African-American fraternity. The Morgan State University choir and jazz ensemble will perform. The event, from 9 a.m. to noon, is sponsored by the Howard L. Cornish Metropolitan Baltimore Chapter of the Morgan State Alumni Association. Tickets are $40, and proceeds will benefit the chapter's scholarship fund.

Rosson, an executive secretary with Union Trust Co. between 1945 and 1958, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Temple Baptist Church, 6916 Dogwood Road.A resident of Old Frederick Road in Catonsville, she died Wednesday of cancer at St. Agnes Hospital. She was 67.At Union Trust -- which is now Signet Bank -- she met J. Garland Rosson Jr., whom she married.She is survived by her husband; a son, James G. Rosson III of Pikesville; and a sister, Dorothy G. Dickinson of Selinsgrove, Pa.The family suggested memorial contributions to Temple Baptist Church or St. Agnes Hospital Home Care/Hospice Program.
