The Orioles have activated infielder Mark Reynolds off the disabled list and replaced him on the DL with right-handed reliever Stu Pomeranz. Pomeranz, who had begun to provide some long-relief stability to the Orioles bullpen, strained his left oblique while warming up in the bullpen in Sunday's game against Kansas City. Reynolds, who went on the DL with an oblique strain May 12, played two games of a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie, going 1-for-7 with four strikeouts.

The Orioles will all but complete their September roster expansion before Tuesday night's game at Yankee Stadium, bringing back Chris Davis from the 15-day disabled list and calling up four more players from the minor leagues. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail confirmed that Davis will rejoin the team after rehabbing his sore shoulder. The Orioles will call up Clay Rapada , Josh Bell , Jeremy Accardo and Pedro Florimon, Jr. Florimon apparently was a late addition when veteran infielder Cesar Izturis suffered another setback in his recovery from a severe groin injury.

NEW YORK - Orioles designated hitter Jim Thome will be put on the disabled list with neck spasms, Orioles manger Buck Showalter said on Tuesday. Second baseman Robert Andino has rejoined the club and will replace Thome on the roster. Andino is available to play in Tuesday night's game. Thome returned to Baltimore for an MRI on his neck on Tuesday morning. After the procedure revealed a herniated disk, Thome plans to fly to California for an epidural, probably either on Wednesday or Thursday.

Barring a last-minute setback, all indications are that Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will be activated from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday before the club's three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Camden Yards. Roberts' 20-day minor league rehab assignment window closes Monday, and he likely played his final rehab game Sunday, going 0-for-4 for Triple-A Norfolk in a 4-2 loss at Buffalo. Roberts, who hasn't played in a major league game since May 16, 2011 because of concussion symptoms, hit .238 (10-for-42)

Orioles left-handed reliever Troy Patton is heading to the 15-day disabled listed after spraining his right ankle as he was walking in the parking garage of his hotel Sunday night. Patton said X-rays on the ankle were negative, but he has been wearing a large boot since the injury and has had to use crutches for going long distances. He expected to be ready to return once he's eligible to come of the DL on Aug. 28. “I just kind of caught the edge wrong and rolled my ankle,” Patton said.

After his final outing of the spring Tuesday, Orioles left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada said he felt physically ready to join the big league club for Opening Day in Baltimore on Friday. But the Orioles brass believes Wada, who signed a two-year, $8.14 million contract in December, will benefit from remaining in Sarasota to build his arm strength and pitch count. Manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday that Wada will begin the season on the disabled list. He will make a minimum of two starts - his first in an extended spring training game scheduled for Monday - in hopes of reaching a pitch count of 90. His second start could be a minor league rehabilitation assignment.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring, a decision that will lead to the call-up of Matt Albers and give the team a 13-man pitching staff. Albers was demoted to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday night after two appearances. Because he would be replacing an injured player on the roster, Albers wouldn't have to stay in the minors for the required 10 days. Instead, the right-handed reliever would rejoin the club Wednesday.

The Orioles placed rookie utility man Ryan Flaherty on the disabled list Wednesday so he can recover from a bacterial infection. Flaherty was sent home early during Tuesday's game with tonsillitis and a 103-degree fever. The club was concerned Flaherty might have mononucleosis, but tests done Wednesday ruled that out. He still had swollen glands, but no longer had a fever. The team sent Flaherty home again Wednesday to get rest. "The next three days are pretty important, because it could turn into something pretty serious there, more than just tonsillitis with the infection," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.
