Olivia's life isn't finished imploding, which is both entertaining and frustrating to watch. I think half of the joy of watching “Scandal” is being able to route for Olivia as she ruthlessly ensures the best outcome for her client. Even though her moral compass currently points nowhere near North, I like to watch her put powerful people in their place. I was beginning to worry that she had no fight left, especially when we open up to her begrudgingly eating Sunday dinner with Daddy Pope.

President Barack Obama had a dinner date last week with a dozen of his worst enemies, thus proving that the governmental stalemate in Washington, D.C., is driving him to unusual acts of political creativity -- or desperation. The president personally picked up the tab for the private dinner at the Jefferson Hotel, and the guests were all Republican senators, including John McCain (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Dan Coats (Ind.)

Perky, bubbly Rachael Ray, who talks as fast as she cooks, is the little darling of the Food Network's cooking show lineup. The hostess of 30 Minute Meals apparently writes as fast as she cooks, because she's just released her sixth cookbook, three more are in the works, and she's been on the air only since 2001. Her latest, which shot up The New York Times paperback list for advice books, is Gettogethers (Lake Isle Press, 2003, $18.95) and is the perfect companion for America's new cocooning stage.

"I feel like a lot of it is just a load of crap. " So much for Emily staying in her hometown for "The Bachelorette" -- this week her and the remaining 13 contestants head to Bermuda for this round of dates. And all those undeserving tool bags get to stay at Rosewood Tucker's Point -- the most beautiful (and expensive) resort on the island (the cheapest room is $600 a night). If we sound bitter, we are. We're going to Bermuda for our honeymoon in October … but we won't be staying at Rosewood Tucker's Point.

BELLEVUE, Wash. - As a chronically single person, I've noticed that society seems to have an interesting attitude toward people who eat alone. I witnessed a demonstration of this recently. I went to a steakhouse to eat a decent meal and work on a writing project. When I walked in, I asked the hostess for a table by the window. The restaurant was pretty dark, and I needed to see to take notes. "Certainly," she said. "Right this way." She showed me to a table and indicated a chair facing the window.

This season seems shorter than usual, which we suppose can be attributed to Emily's quick dismissal of any dude that remotely dislikes children. We probably wouldn't be friends with her -- we dislike most children we meet. This week Emily joins the final three bachelors, Jef with one f, Arie ("Speed Racer") and Sean ("Biceps"), in Curacao. Private island date Sarah: Finally the producers take control of date planning. Emily and Sean take a helicopter ride to a private island, snorkel and then enjoy a dinner on the beach with hundreds of couch pillows.

Every few years, Valentine's Day falls on a Monday, which is very good news for restaurants. Think about it: It's only when Feb. 14 falls on Monday that restaurants can stretch the big dining-out occasion into a four-day, long-weekend dating extravaganza. This time, restaurants appear ready. High-end restaurants like Da Mimmo (217 S. High St., 410-727-6876, damimmo.com) in Little Italy are offering complimentary limousine service and promising long-stem roses for their female customers.
