Demetrios J. "Harry" Coventaros, former owner of the Cove Restaurant, died Thursday at Meridian Nursing Center-Catonsville after a short illness. His death came just a few hours after he had reached his 103rd birthday.Funeral services were being held today at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 Cub Hill Road.Mr. Coventaros, a lifelong bachelor, had lived in Ferndale for 40 years and in Baltimore before that.A native of Greece, Mr. Coventaros immigrated to the United States in 1908 to join his brother, Constantine, who had traveled to Baltimore a year earlier.

Louis J. "Jack" Foudos, former owner of a cleaning and dyeing concern who played a pivotal role in the founding of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Parkville, died May 21 of complications from cancer at Stella Maris Hospice. He was 77. The son of Louis Foudos, a Greek immigrant businessman, and Caroline Smith, a homemaker, Louis John Foudos was born in Baltimore and raised in Parkville. He attended McDonogh School and graduated in 1955 from Calvert Hall College High School.

In what Greek Orthodox clergy say is "a once-in-lifetime event," Baltimore County's St. Demetrios Church will be consecrated this weekend by two of the denomination's revered leaders, who will encase relics of three early Christian saints in the altar table.His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos and His Excellency Metropolitan Silas will preside at the consecration service at 9 a.m. Sunday, the culmination of a series of ancient rites this week at the domed church at 2504 Cub Hill Road.Construction of the church, decorated in the Byzantine style, began in 1983 on a 30-acre site in the Cub Hill section of the county north of Carney.

Mercina Daskalakis, who co-owned and operated a wireless communications business and became a donor to religious, educational and health charities, died of cancer Feb. 27 at Gilchrist Hospice. She was 69 and lived in Baldwin. Born Mercina Vendelis in Baltimore, she was known as Cina and lived on Lehigh Street in Highlandtown as a child. Her parents owned the Busy Bee Restaurant in Northeast Baltimore and later the Bee Hive on Lexington Street in downtown Baltimore. She was a manager at the restaurant, which was patronized by City Hall, courthouse and postal employees.
