Donald S. Jones, former president and chief executive officer of Commercial Credit Co., died June 16 of complications from a broken hip at his Delray Beach, Fla., home. The former Towson resident was 99. Mr. Jones was born and raised in Providence, R.I. After graduating from Bryant College in 1930, he began his career with Commercial Credit Co. as an accounting clerk in Providence. He held various positions in the Northwest until 1954, when he was named vice president in charge of finance and loan operations for the Midwest.

Lipman, Marvin A. 75 of Delray Beach, FL died on September 30, 2003. He was an extremely devoted husband of Dorothy (Dottie) nee Barber, devoted father of Hilarie and Bob Schweriner and Michael Lipman. Compassionate gramps of Jason and Leigh Schweriner, brother-in-law of Bella and Marvin Meyer and Evelyn Singer; uncle, great-uncle and great-great uncle; sincere friend of many and the son of the late Jenny and Michael H. JOHN JENKINS, 62, of Lighthouse Point passed away on November 13, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca, two step-daughters, Pamela Kuntz and Tamara Peco, step-son Eric Grimes, three loving grandchildren, Kyle and Sarah Peco and Bria Kuntz. He is also survived by his brothers, George and Richard Jenkins, sister, Sharon Czajkowski, on niece and three nephews. He was born in Baltimore, MD and had an accomplished 39 year career with Bell Atlantic and Bellsouth Telecommunications.

Lee Hadley, 60, an author who collaborated with Annabelle Irwin to write the Hadley Irwin novels for teen-agers, died of cancer Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa. The women had written 13 novels in the past 15 years, all of them featuring lead characters who rise above hurtful circumstances.Ralph A. Hart, 91, former president of Heublein Inc. and Colgate Palmolive International, died of cancer Tuesday in Delray Beach, Fla.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A German shepherd took the witness stand and woofed for a wide-eyed jury, the final testimony in the odd trial of a Delray Beach man.Eluo, a Boca Raton police dog, became a witness yesterday in the case against Rodney Thomas, who was charged with trying to strangle the dog during a burglary arrest.Circuit Court Judge Peter Blanc gave special permission for prosecutors to bring the dog onto the witness stand, accompanied by his handler, Officer Richard Barnett.Police say Thomas was hiding in the crawl space under a Delray Beach house on May 2 when they tried to arrest him.He refused to come out, so Eluo went in after him. That's when Thomas reached down and began choking the dog, Barnett said.

On July 5, 2004, CAROLYN ANNE ABELL (nee Dodge) passed away peacefully at the Hospice by the Sea, in Boca Raton, FL., after a short illness. Formerly of Baltimore, MD., Carolyn was a resident of Florida for over 29 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert, in 1999. She is survived by her loving children, W. Robert Abell, of Wilmington, DE; J. Aleta Unverzagt and Wayne R. Abell of Baltimore, MD.; four grandchildren, Nancy, Ronald, Eric and Amy, and one great-granddaughter, Abigail.
