After a string of five losing seasons, Mount Saint Joseph's football players resolved during the offseason to create a new identity for their Gaels program this fall - one that would bring winning back. Their work ethic combined with a more experienced team and schematic changes on both sides of the ball have the Gaels off to a 4-0 start - their best opening since 1995. "Based on the fact that we've doubled our wins from last season, team morale is definitely at an all-time high," senior lineman Jimmy Moore said, "and getting a couple wins at Bullis and Dover (Del.)

Dawan Landry and his little brother, LaRon, have taken different roads to the NFL, have played different positions along the way, and years after leaving their tiny Louisiana hometown, have wound up on teams about an hour apart. They started in the same place, in the backyard of the family's home in Ama, La., whaling on each other from the earliest age. "We never really had stitches," recalled Dawan, now 24. "When I was 5 and LaRon was 3, my dad bought us boxing gloves. He didn't really want us to hurt each other.

Former NFL safety Andre Waters has joined Stump Mitchell's staff at Morgan State, where he will serve as defensive backs coach.Waters spent 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before finishing his career in 1995 with the Arizona Cardinals. A longtime friend of Mitchell's, he arrived in the NFL as an unheralded free agent from Cheyney University in Pennsylvania, the same school that inducted new Morgan State athletic director Garnett Purnell into its athletic Hall of Fame."Andre brings a lot to the Morgan coaching staff," said Mitchell, who replaced Ricky Diggs in December.
