Scott Evans remembers the soft glow of the small television set, and the way his stepfather tried to calm him and his sister for the benefit of the neighbors in the apartment below. But who, on this night, was not celebrating? It was 1983 and the Baltimore Orioles had won the World Series. Evans, now 34 and a plumber living in Essex, has "always been an Orioles fan. " "I cried the day Cal Ripken retired," he said. "I remember the smell of Memorial Stadium. " But two years ago, Evans grew so frustrated with his favorite team that he logged onto Facebook to start a group he called "O's fans Peter Angelos has to GO. " The Orioles will begin a new season Friday, taking the field at Camden Yards to inaugurate what would become - barring some diversion from a streak that has persisted throughout the 21st century - a 15th straight losing season.

The passion of Twilight fans knows no bounds, so maybe it's not suprising that folks would get so excited to see a video of a video of a snippet of "Breaking Dawn Part 2" -- at a Target store, no less. To promote the release of the "Breaking Dawn Part 1" DVD, Target held parties at midnight Friday and offered a peek at "Part 2. " Fans who couldn't attend one of the parties can get a look on YouTube and other sites. I love the "Price Cut 699.99" sign on the TV.

Baltimore may experience a wintry mix in the pre-dawn hours Friday, when a small band of precipitation moves over the city, according to National Weather Service forecasters. A cold front moving in from the Midwest may cause rain to change into snow after 3 a.m., making roads slippery for the morning commute. No accumulation is expected. The overnight hours are expected to be mostly cloudy, with showers beginning after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. The low temperature is expected to be around 37, with south winds between 9 and 18 miles per hour.

The sun wasn't even up yet, but the partying had already started at Union Jack's in Columbia. Royal weddings, after all, come along only once in a generation. "A wedding like this, it's history," said Union Jack's owner Gary Ouellette, whose restaurant was packed with more than 100 star-struck royal watchers by the time the London wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton started at 6 a.m. "We may not see anything quite like this again in our lifetime. " Don't say that to Mary Anne Johnson, Frances Thomas and Cathy Graham.

In the dark and very cold hours before dawn Tuesday, the brilliant full moon will slide into the long shadow the Earth casts into space, progressively dimming to what might become an eerie copper color. It's a total lunar eclipse, the first visible anywhere since February 2008 and, if the weather cooperates, the last Marylanders will see until April 2014. "There's something a bit magical about it," said Jim O'Leary, director of the Maryland Science Center 's Davis Planetarium.

From Baltimore to New Zealand, Mark Johnson has made movies of all sizes, costs, colors and flavors. As Barry Levinson's producing partner in Baltimore Pictures, he teamed up with the prolific, versatile writer-director on some peak accomplishments, including Levinson's classic remembrance of things past, "Diner" (1982), and his radically original mobster movie, "Bugsy" (1991). When Johnson started Mark Johnson Productions, he continued to go in zigzag yet profitable directions. He immediately hired a gifted Mexican filmmaker to create a new version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's children's book "A Little Princess" (1995)
