With the farewell last month of ABC's NYPD Blue, and the recent announcement that Monday Night Football will move to ESPN next season, there is a seismic shift in the normally stable list of longest-running current prime-time series. When football gets punted to cable, two new slots will have opened in what might be called "TV's Tenured 10." With the new tally, there are some notable trends: The top three shows on the list will have premiered at 10-year intervals: 60 Minutes on CBS in 1968, ABC's 20/20 in 1978, and 48 Hours on CBS in 1988.

What is the biggest freshwater lake in the world? A fascinating repeat of the PBS series "Nova" answers the geography quiz tonight. In addition, two recent films made in Baltimore get a cable screening.* "Nova: Journey to the Sacred Sea" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., MPT, Channels 22, 67) -- The title describes the traditional name for Lake Baikal, which stretches across 400 miles of Siberia and is estimated to hold one-fifth of the fresh water on Earth. The repeat episode examines its ancient history.

News and interview shows dominate the evening, as Tabitha Soren's new interview show on MTV premieres at the same time as old pro Barbara Walters holds forth on ABC. But for the day's real find, set your VCR timer to record an afternoon showing of the Faust legend as only the Brits could twist it.* "Wings" (8 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.-10 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- NBC shows a repeat of the two-part season opener, in which a moment of heated passion for Brian and Casey leaves Helen's house burning to the ground.

Does the magic of "Star Trek" rub off on other genres? That's the question involving a new Paramount series from producer Michael Piller, who helped launch "Star Trek: Voyager." And while we're at it, the original "Star Trek" creator is also on view tonight.* "Legend" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WNUV, Channel 54) -- "MacGyver" meets James West? That's the association vaguely evoked by this new series starring Richard Dean Anderson. The former inventive agent of "MacGyver" plays a writer of dime Western novels who sometimes has to assume the persona of his fictional hero, Nicodemus Legend.

Among those big questions: Who else might be out there? PBS* "Beverly Hills, 90210" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- A repeat of the season finale sets up some of the plot questions to be resolved soon in a new season, as the series' principals travel to Palm Springs for a convention.

The hosts were talking up the crab cakes yesterday in preparation for today's visit to Baltimore by NBC's "Today" show. And PBS tonight offers a performance of Hollywood film music.* "Today" (7 a.m.-9 a.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Although visits to Wilmington and Philadelphia were postponed in light of the Yitzhak Rabin story, the network morning show is still due in Baltimore today. Bryant Gumbel, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer are scheduled to broadcast from Rash Field, while Willard Scott visits Lexington Market.
