Baltimore County school board member and failed state Senate candidate Robert Fulton Dashiell pleaded guilty yesterday in Baltimore District Court to violating Maryland's election law banning "walk-around money" being paid to campaign workers.Dashiell, who tried unsuccessfully to unseat state Sen. Delores G. Kelley, a 10th District Democrat, was fined $500 and given probation before judgment by Judge Kathleen M. Sweeney after he agreed to a statement of facts proposed by Assistant State Prosecutor Isabel M. Cumming.

In a possible violation of state election laws, at least a half-dozen Old Court Middle School employees were recruited and paid $125 each on primary election day to work the polls for state Senate candidate -- and current school board member -- Robert Fulton Dashiell.Dashiell, who was soundly defeated in his primary bid to unseat 10th District Democratic state Sen. Delores G. Kelley, confirmed that the $125 checks were given out at Dashiell's election night ++ headquarters at the Forum, a catering hall in Northwest Baltimore.

Brittany Dashiell has learned a lot while playing sports at John Carroll. She played on the varsity soccer team that won the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title in the fall of 2005, and she also was on the lacrosse team that captured the conference championship last spring. But her most recent title might have been the most satisfying. Dashiell, who's been playing soccer and lacrosse since she was 5, scored three goals to help John Carroll win the A Conference indoor soccer title recently.

Unsuccessful state Senate candidate Robert Fulton Dashiell has filed two overdue campaign finance reports listing 83 people who got $125 each for election-day campaign work -- payments that are under investigation by Maryland's prosecutor.The reports filed by Dashiell, a member of the Baltimore County school board, paint a picture of a campaign built on paid staff and workers rather than on volunteers, and funded largely by the candidate himself.But Dashiell -- an attorney who owes $950 in late fees on four campaign reports -- said yesterday that he has not seen the latest report, signed by campaign treasurer Audrey Quarles.

Beloved mother of Keith Edward Bailey, of Abingdon, MD, and Kathleen Ann Bailey, of Phoenix, AZ; beloved grandmother of Eric and Shannon Bailey. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, William, Richard and Frank Dashiell. working as both an x-ray technician and a physical therapy technician. She was proud of her contributions to the lives of others and always aspired to excellence. She will be dearly missed. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Martha E. ManahanCollege registrarMartha E. Manahan, registrar at Western Maryland College for 28 years, died Oct. 24 at Carroll County General Hospital after a brief illness.A 1923 graduate of the Westminster college, Ms. Manahan taught in Carroll County schools and was an agricultural extension agent for the University of Maryland before returning to her alma mater as its registrar.A Westminster resident for all her 91 years, Ms. Manahan lived most of her life on East Green Street. In 1989, she moved to Carroll Lutheran Village, which she called "a delightful place to relax and be as active as one desires."

When recent John Carroll graduate Brittany Dashiell stepped on campus at the University of Florida, she knew it was the place for her. It turned out to be the place for five other local lacrosse standouts who will join Dashiell today at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium for the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. Dashiell, Mount Hebron's Ashley Bruns, Severna Park's Sam Farrell, McDonogh's Kitty Cullen and Colby Rhea, and St. Mary's Haydon Judge will all suit up for the South team in the all-star event featuring the top 47 senior girls lacrosse players in the country.
