Howard County schools Superintendent Michael E. Hickey announced the appointments and transfers of 15 administrators at the school board meeting last week.The changes include:Patricia Tidgewell will become the new instructional director of elementary schools, replacing the retiring Edward Alex- ander. Dr. Tidgewell had been set to become principal of the new Ilchester Elementary School when it opens in the fall. She previously was the principal of Laurel Woods Elementary School.Jacqueline Lazarewicz, principal of Clemens Crossing Elementary School, will become the principal of Ilchester.

Also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Rd., Odenton, where services will be held on Thursday 11 A.M. On Monday, May 10, 2004, Mrs. THELMA CATHCART FISCHER, 82, a native of Baltimore, MD, former resident of Murrell's Inlet, SC, and Poquoson resident the past two years, died at home with family by her side. In Catonsville, MD, she was a member of the Women's Club of Catonsville, the Maryland Club, and the Volunteer Literacy Tutors. In South Carolina, she was a member of the Woodlake Village Garden Club in Garden City (Treasurer 1998-2002), the Bridge Club of Murrell's Inlet, the Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, Murrell's Inlet, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

When classes start next week, most kids in 7-year-old Kaleb Jareaux's neighborhood will attend Dasher Green-Owen Brown School in Columbia, which is on a state list of struggling schools. His mom says there is no way her son will go there. The Howard County school system says she does not have a choice. Marlena Jareaux is caught in a battle of semantics with the school system, which she says interprets too literally the eligibility requirements in a federal law that allows parents to pull their children from failing schools.

Developers planning subdivisions in eastern Howard County or projects that require conditional-use permission must meet with neighbors before submitting plans to the county. The next meetings are: Monday at 6:30 p.m. at 5100 Dorsey Hall Drive, Ellicott City, about a conditional-use request by Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12580 Clarksville Pike. Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the model home at 5825 Rockburn Woods Way, Elkridge, about a proposal for nine units on 2.66 acres on the Ferguson/Dasher properties, 6232-6236 Waterloo Road.

Missouri running back and senior captain Derrick Washington has been suspended indefinitely by coach Gary Pinkel after court documents revealed Washington had an order of protection issued against him after being accused of sexual assault in June, the Columbia Missourian reported Friday. A woman in her early 20s alleges Washington entered her room "unprovoked" and sexually assaulted her June 19 at a campus apartment. "I was sexually assaulted by him. ... I am pressing criminal charges," she wrote in court documents obtained by the Missourian.

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Antwan Dasher scored 22 points to lead Fairleigh Dickinson to an 80-64 victory over Mount St. Mary's last night in the Northeast Conference regular-season finale for both.Riley Inge led the Mountaineers with 23 points. Chris McGuthrie and Michael Watson scored 13 each for Mount St. Mary's. Watson paced the Mount with 11 rebounds.Fairleigh Dickinson (15-11, 11-7) shot 52 percent in the first half to 27 percent for the Mountaineers (14-12, 12-6) in taking a 43-35 halftime lead.
