Performer of the Year Darrius Heyward-Bey, McDonogh The senior sprinted his way into the record books at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships. Heyward-Bey won the 100- and 200-meter dashes for the third consecutive season at the MIAA meet. A member of the winning 800 relay squad at the MIAA championships, Heyward-Bey also took the 100 at the Morgan State Invitational in 10.78.

Which might be where the Terps are right now with their quarterback situation. Ralph Friedgen had the chance to make Turner the starter heading into the season, but the coach chose Jordan Steffy instead. Now, after one game, Steffy is out at least three weeks, so Turner steps back into the job he held for the second half of last season, when he went 3-5 as a starter.

Maryland Goode answers call for Terps One of the biggest question marks for Maryland heading into this fall was who was going to catch the football. Five games into the season, the Terps might have found another option. Junior tight end Jason Goode, a former All-Metro standout for Woodlawn and Archbishop Curley, was used in the slot and helped Maryland disguise which formations it was running Saturday in a 27-23 loss at Georgia Tech. He finished with four catches for 33 yards, including an 18-yard reception on third-and-three that landed the Terps on Georgia Tech's 3-yard line in the first quarter.
