A 35-year-old Odenton man suffered minor scrapes after he allegedly tried to attack a Carver Road resident Monday, police said.Gary William Stevens of the 1400 block of Jackson Road was charged with burglary, breaking and entering and assault.Police said a man wearing dark clothing and with a pair of pliers in his back pocket broke a window and entered a woman's home about 4 a.m., went into the master bedroom and lunged at the woman and her houseguest, who were in bed at the time. The houseguest detained the man until police arrived.

Police were seeking a man who broke into the home of a Joppa woman yesterday and sexually assaulted her, said a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.Sgt. Edward Hopkins, the spokesman, said the woman was at home alone about 5: 15 p.m. when the man entered through a door.Hopkins said the woman, who was not raped, was treated at Fallston General Hospital for lacerations.The woman's attacker was described as a white man wearing dark clothing, about 6 feet tall, weighing 220 pounds, with severe acne, Hopkins said.

Two gunmen stormed into a Mobil gas station on Dorsey Hall Drive in Ellicott City early yesterday morning and robbed it of an unknown amount of cash, Howard County police said.The robbers were wearing ski masks and dark clothing when they entered the gas station, which is in Dorsey Search Village Center, shortly before 3 a.m.Armed with a gray handgun, the robbers forced the male clerk into a back room and then shoved him to the ground. Three gunmen leaped over a counter yesterday and robbed a Linthicum bank branch of an undisclosed amount of money, county police reported. The holdup occurred about 9:45 a.m. at the Bank of America office in the 200 block of Benton Ave. Police said the bandits all wore dark clothing and concealed their faces - one with a mask, another with dark sunglasses and the third with an Orioles bandana. No one in the bank was harmed during the incident, police said.

A man was shot at a Parkville business Tuesday in what Baltimore County police believe was an armed robbery. Officers were called at 3:27 p.m. to a business in the 8300 block of Harford Road, where one man was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton. She did not know the name of the business. A Brookeville man was killed early yesterday when he was struck by a car while running across Route 175 in Jessup, Anne Arundel County police said. About 5:15 a.m., Glenn Allan James, 20, was crossing the highway in a dimly lit area near the Baltimore-Washington Parkway overpass when he was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by William J. Slifker Jr., 66, of Crofton, said police spokesman Sgt. Shawn Urbas. James suffered multiple fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Urbas said.
