On Saturday, June 7, 2008 ESTELLA V. BECKETTS, age 77, was called home. She was loving mother of Danton Robinson, Wendy Beckett, Steven Becketts, David Becketts and the late Stephanie Jenkins; dear sister of Elizabeth Staley, Hortense Grant, Peggy Beckett, Joseph Beckett and the late Howard Beckett, George Beckett, Sr., and Minerva Beckett McClure. She is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Lugo Becketts and one future daughter-in-law, Nicole Cameron, ten grand children, ten great grandchildren.

John E. Vermillion, 82, comptroller's office auditorJohn Eugene Vermillion, who owned a jewelry store and worked in the Maryland comptroller's office, died Nov. 22 of cancer at Charlestown Retirement Community, where he had lived for four years. He was 82.Mr. Vermillion, who had lived in Parkville for more than 20 years, opened a jewelry store in Catonsville after World War II and sold it in 1961. He went to work for the state. When he retired at 62, he was an auditor in the alcohol and tobacco division of the comptroller's office.

Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin will have surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his back and is expected to be out 12 weeks. The Oilers didn't provide a timeline for his return, saying Wednesday that he's "out indefinitely," but Khabibulin's agent, Jay Grossman , said the goalie will need 12 weeks to recover. Khabibulin, who signed a $15 million, four-year contract over the summer, hasn't played since Nov. 16. He's 7-9-2 with a 3.03 goals-against average.

Chapter 17 opens with some verbal jousting between Frank and Remy Danton, who has been lobbying on Tusk's behalf. Tusk has tasked Remy to help wrangle members of the House to vote for Frank's grand bill that passed the Senate in Chapter 16. Tusk seems to be trying to play Frank. That never works. Frank sends Jackie to work with Remy on rounding up the fifteen additional votes that they'll need, while he sets off to persuade his old frenemy Donald Blythe. Claire is preparing for an interview with Asleigh Banfield, going over the questions she'll face with Connor, the guy she hired to handle media relations for her and her her husband.
