On Saturday, January 10, 2004, LEE NORTON DANNER, of WV, formerly of Rockville, MD. Father of Sharon Weston-Dawkes (Jon); Philip C. Danner (Deedra) and Sarah L. Evans (Peter). Grandfather of Crystal, Glenn, Daniel, Carah and Victoria. Predeceased in death by his brother Hugh. Koren War Army veteran. Received degrees from the USC - Berkley and the Univ. of MD. He retired from IBM, was a professor at ETSU, College of WV and Bluefield State College. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 3 P.M. at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Rd., Ellicott City, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

Carroll County General Hospital recently honored volunteers for outstanding service at the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, held in observance of National Volunteer Week. More than 100 volunteers received pins and certificates of appreciation for their service. The hospital is served by 179 volunteers who help in many capacities, including delivering mail and flowers, discharging patients, assisting staff with administrative tasks and managing the information desk. Volunteers donated nearly 40,000 hours last year.

The last time Bill Moleton was in boot camp, there was a war in Vietnam and 180 pounds on his 6-foot frame. Three decades and 90 pounds later, Moleton, has enlisted again - in the new "boot camp" fitness program put on by the Howard County Office on Aging. A former Air Force sergeant with a commanding baritone and a body like an action figure leads Moleton and other seniors in an hour of push-ups, crunches and other calisthenics - toned down, of course, from the rigors of a real military boot camp, but macho enough to draw folks who believe Jazzercise is for wimps.

Charles E. Danner Jr., 76, Episcopal priestCharles Eugene Danner Jr., a retired Episcopal priest, died of a blood disorder Saturday at Roland Park Place. He was 76.Mr. Danner was pastor of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church on Gibson Island from 1976 until he retired in 1994. Earlier, he was vicar of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Lutherville, assistant rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in downtown Baltimore and rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Franklintown.He also had been lay chaplain at the old Hannah More Academy in Reisterstown and the Garrison Forest School in Owings Mills.

THURMONT -- The privately operated Catoctin Mountain Zoo Park is campaigning to raise $1 million to buy, among other things, the property it now leases for its menagerie of 200 animals.During the zoo's "Lend A Hand, Sponsor A Foot" campaign, donors can purchase an honorary square-foot tract at the 32-acre zoo on U.S. 15 south of Thurmont, near the popular Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park."Our goal is to become a well-known zoo," said Gerry Strachan, president of the zoo board.
