On Saturday, January 10, 2004, LEE NORTON DANNER, of WV, formerly of Rockville, MD. Father of Sharon Weston-Dawkes (Jon); Philip C. Danner (Deedra) and Sarah L. Evans (Peter). Grandfather of Crystal, Glenn, Daniel, Carah and Victoria. Predeceased in death by his brother Hugh. Korean War Army veteran. Received degrees from the USC - Berkley and the Univ. of MD. He retired from IBM, was a professor at ETSU, College of WV and Bluefield State College. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 3 P.M. at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Rd., Ellicott City, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

BOYS LACROSSE Player of the Year Harrison Chaires Centennial Chaires was one of the most dangerous attackman in the area and was fearless going to the goal. He finished his senior season with 63 goals and 25 assists, and for the second consecutive year he was nominated for the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award, annually given to the state's best player. He helped lead the Eagles to the Class 3A-2A state final against Hereford by scoring a goal and dishing out two assists. He will attend Naval Academy Preparatory School in the fall.

Ben Evan McLeod Jr., a retired oil company manager and a hunter, died of liver failure Dec. 5 at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Long Green resident was 79. Mr. McLeod was born and raised in Georgetown, S.C. After graduating from what is now Clemson University in 1950, he enlisted in the Army. Mr. McLeod served as a lieutenant with an ordnance unit in Korea and was discharged in 1952. He went to work that year at a Standard Oil Co. bulk-oil plant in Conway, S.C., driving an oil truck and later tanker trucks.

Color is your friend, ladies. Take it from Kim Danner, a former fan of the all-black uniform. She was hanging out in Fells Point while visiting her boyfriends' family, and probably would have passed by unnoticed in her one-time favorite outfit: black pants, black top, black shoes. But in her splashy green jacket, tops in pink as well as cream-and-black, blue jeans and brown boots, Danner - a newfound lover of happier hues - stood out like a beam of sunshine. Age: 33 Residence: Denver Job: Saleswoman at Decade, a Denver boutique Self-described style: "Casual, comfortable, but definitely on the funkier side."

Local golf enthusiasts could forgo their trips to Myrtle Beach and still place their putts in a warmer climate this winter.'Course, they'll have to be content with birdies and bogeys on a miniature scale.Danner Farms, a Westminster retail nursery, has installed an indoor miniature golf course with a tropical theme in its main greenhouse on Route 140."We felt there is such a need for something like this in the community," said Rhonda Danner, co-owner of Danner Farms. "The tropical theme was so natural with all the plant material we have around here."

Lawrence E. Brubaker, a retired railroad employee who grew wheat in the yard of his log home, died of melanoma Wednesday at his granddaughter's home in Reisterstown. He was 92. Born in Braymer, Mo., he moved to Maryland as boy. His family drove the whole way in an Overland car with their pet collie riding on the running board, said his daughter, Joyce M. Danner of Finksburg. The family farmed on the Eastern Shore for a few years before moving to Reisterstown in 1929. Mr. Brubaker left school after the sixth grade to help his parents with the farm, his daughter said.
