Grandfather of Crystal, Glenn, Daniel, Carah and Victoria. Predeceased in death by his brother Hugh. Koren War Army veteran. Received degrees from the USC - Berkley and the Univ. of MD. He retired from IBM, was a professor at ETSU, College of WV and Bluefield State College. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 3 P.M. at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Rd., Ellicott City, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

BOYS LACROSSE Player of the Year Harrison Chaires Centennial Chaires was one of the most dangerous attackman in the area and was fearless going to the goal. He finished his senior season with 63 goals and 25 assists, and for the second consecutive year he was nominated for the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award, annually given to the state's best player. He helped lead the Eagles to the Class 3A-2A state final against Hereford by scoring a goal and dishing out two assists. He will attend Naval Academy Preparatory School in the fall.

Ben Evan McLeod Jr., a retired oil company manager and a hunter, died of liver failure Dec. 5 at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Long Green resident was 79. Mr. McLeod was born and raised in Georgetown, S.C. After graduating from what is now Clemson University in 1950, he enlisted in the Army. Mr. McLeod served as a lieutenant with an ordnance unit in Korea and was discharged in 1952. He went to work that year at a Standard Oil Co. bulk-oil plant in Conway, S.C., driving an oil truck and later tanker trucks.

Lawrence E. Brubaker, a retired railroad employee who grew wheat in the yard of his log home, died of melanoma Wednesday at his granddaughter's home in Reisterstown. He was 92. Born in Braymer, Mo., he moved to Maryland as boy. His family drove the whole way in an Overland car with their pet collie riding on the running board, said his daughter, Joyce M. Danner of Finksburg. The family farmed on the Eastern Shore for a few years before moving to Reisterstown in 1929. Mr. Brubaker left school after the sixth grade to help his parents with the farm, his daughter said.
