$1.4 million expected from new, increased feesBaltimore County residents will have to pay either a $3 daily or a $15 yearly fee to launch their boats from county park boat ramps this year -- just two of eight new fees County Executive Roger B. Hayden is asking the council to pass.The new fees, together with recent increases in a long list of existing fees, are intended to make local services self-supporting. All told, they would bring in an estimated $1.4 million in new revenue every year, according to county administrative officer Merreen Kelly.

Navid Sarfaraz and James Odoms represent the old and new of Pigtown. Odoms, 33, who works as a carpenter, has lived in the neighborhood most of his life. He weathered the days of rampant drug dealing and stickups, but more recently, he has seen rents rising and longtime neighbors moving away. Sarfaraz, 22, a graduate of Howard Community College, began renting a rowhouse in October, eager to trade the monotony of suburban life in his native Ellicott City for a more exciting existence. His parents worry about his safety in the big city.

MR. CHRISTAN ANDREW D'ANNA, 58, of Woodsboro, MD, died unexpectedly at Johns Hopkins Hospital on June 14, 2006. He was the husband of Barbara D'Anna, whom he married May 24, 1992. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Lauren Joy Mack; a brother, Salvatore A. D'Anna; granddaughters, Morgan Taylor Mack and Courtney Ashlin Mack; a sister-in-law, Arlene D'Anna; and his lifelong friend, John P. Cefalu'. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon & Leroy Spence. He will also be remembered by his faithful and loving companions, Puggy, Raven, Austin, Meadow, and Biz the Horse.

Carmen V. D'Anna Sr., president and chairman of Mars Super Markets Inc., died Thursday of complications of bypass surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was 77 and lived in Essex.Mr. D'Anna became president of the Dundalk-based grocery chain in 1995 after the death of his brother, Angelo D'Anna.With his brother, Mr. D'Anna began the family-operated business in 1946 in a grocery store on Holabird Avenue in Dundalk, today the headquarters of the chain. Mars Super Markets has expanded to 15 stores with sales last year of $220 million.

Angelo D'Anna, president of Mars Supermarkets, the family-owned, Baltimore-area grocery chain, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at University of Maryland Medical Center.He was 71.Mr. D'Anna built the 12-store chain from a grocery store that opened in 1946 on Holabird Avenue in Dundalk.Obituary on 3B.

Anthony S. D'Anna, a retired Mars Super Markets Inc. executive and World War II veteran, died Wednesday of complications from a stroke at Symphony Manor assisted-living facility in Roland Park. The longtime Timonium resident was 85. The son of an Italian immigrant and a homemaker, Anthony Settimo D'Anna was born in Baltimore and raised on Mulberry Street. After graduating from Calvert Hall College High School in 1944, Mr. D'Anna enlisted in the Army and served in Europe with the 63rd Infantry Division.
