McDonogh's girls lacrosse team won most of its regular-season games pretty handily, but once the playoffs arrived, the scores got closer. That was just fine with Ali Brennan, as long as her Eagles kept winning - and they did. Brennan's five goals, and McDonogh's late-game defensive stand, put the finishing touches on a wire-to-wire run as No. 1 with a 13-10 win over No. 2 Notre Dame Prep on Sunday at Gerstell Academy in Finksburg. It's the Eagles' first Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference crown "It is really hard [to stay No. 1 all season]

Many of Caitlyn McFadden's earliest memories revolve around sports. From the time she was three months old, McFadden was a regular on the Maryvale sidelines, where her mother, Mary Clare McFadden, coached three sports. The daughter absorbed it all and grew into a three-sport standout at Notre Dame Prep. "I always wanted to play," McFadden said. "I loved it when I was little, being around the older girls. I thought they were so good and so cool. They were my idols, I guess. I just wanted to be like them."

The Notre Dame Prep and Severn girls both used the team concept to win titles in yesterday's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championship at Oregon Ridge Park. Notre Dame Prep won its second straight A Conference crown with five runners finishing within 33 seconds of one another on a cold and blustery afternoon. Liz Schiavone (sixth place) was the first Pirate, and Notre Dame Prep then took four of the next six spots for 47 points to beat out No. 9 John Carroll (62). Schiavone finished in 20 minutes, 48 seconds, with teammates Kate Dunseith (eighth, 20:56)
