Old Mill's 53-51 loss in overtime at Meade Friday in the Class 4A, East Region final was more than a basketball defeat to coach Paul Bunting.Bunting was disappointed for his players after they came so close to upsetting No. 5-ranked Meade (24-2), which set a county public school record for wins in a season, but he was more sad about saying goodbye to what he considered to be the best group of seniors and parents he's had in his 14 seasons in Millersville."I'm really appreciative of many things, " said Bunting, who has a career record of 177-141.

Want to express yourself on a license plate? Go ahead. The state will gladly take your $50 per year. You can't say any old thing, though. The Motor Vehicle Administration has cataloged more than 4,000 words, phrases and letter-number combinations it won't put on a tag. The agency's Objectionable Plate List, as it's called, is a compendium of vulgarities, obscenities and other no-no's aimed at keeping tags out of the gutter. The Baltimore Sun requested the information last week, hoping to share what the MVA doesn't want you to see on the road.

It might have been a first, but normally high-scoring Annapolis, the team that set a state record of 90.5 points a game last season, did not hit a field goal in the final period last night at Severna Park and held on to take a 61-52 squeaker. In an aggressive game, the two teams went to the line 58 times. The winning Panthers were 18-for-28 in free throws, and the host was 21-for-30.Ryan Dacey's (17 points) five free throws in the last 55 seconds were all the No. 10 Panthers (4-0) managed to put on the board while the Falcons (1-3)

Jolley be removed for allegedly voiding dozens of traffic and parking tickets, and misappropriating money in a discretionary fund. The council rejected 4-1 the recommendation by Mayor Ruth Elliot and voted instead to turn the matter over to City Administrator Peter Dacey for action.Mrs. Elliot made her recommendation based on findings in a July 2 report by Stephen Montanarelli, a state special prosecutor, who cited several administrative improprieties by Chief Jolley, including the voided tickets and several checks written against a discretionary fund under his control.
