An appearance in the Old Spice Classic, as well as home-and-home series with North Carolina and Duke, highlight the University of Maryland men's basketball schedule for 2008-09 released yesterday. The Terps' nonconference schedule includes three games in Orlando, Fla., in the Old Spice Classic at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex. The Terrapins open against Michigan State, one of six opponents that appeared in the 2008 NCAA tournament. Four other NCAA participants from 2008 are in the Old Spice Classic field: Tennessee, Siena, Gonzaga and Georgetown.

The Caps need this one badly if they hope to have any shot at qualifying for the playoffs.

And we're back. Sorry for my absence from these pages, but there was a matter of some urgency dealing with my health. Luckily for me, I've recovered. Unluckily for you, the column is back. However, I believe doctors removed that part of my brain that enables me to write about one subject for more than a few paragraphs. Comcast SportsNet is adding an overflow channel, called CSN+, starting Oct. 1. The channel will be activated when Comcast SportsNet carries simultaneous live games of the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards or area colleges.
