After threatening his estranged wife and dousing her home in gasoline, a 47-year-old Crownsville man shot himself as officers came to the house to investigate Tuesday, according to police. Anne Arundel County police said James John Dean threatened his wife with a shotgun and to burn down her home with the two inside Tuesday. Officers were first called to the residence in the 2000 block of Saint Stephens Woods Drive just before 4 p.m. for an unknown disturbance. No one answered at the front door, but an officer noticed a women sitting in a chair inside the home, but police said she did not acknowledge them.

Authorites have arrested a 21-year-old Severna Park man accused of stabbing three people during a home invasion in Crownsville. Michael Joseph May of the 200 block of North Drive was detained about 10 p.m. Monday night at the intersection of Patapsco Avenue and 4th Street in Baltimore. He was arrested without incident and is being held without bail at the Jennifer Road Detention Center, charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and assault. According to police, two men forced their way into a mobile home early Sunday morning in the area of Summer Hill Trailer Park.

Anne Arundel County police are seeking a 21-year-old Severna Park man accused of stabbing two men and a woman during a home invasion in Crownsville early Sunday morning. Police have issued an arrest warrant for Michael Joseph May of the 200 block of North Drive on charges of first-degree attempted murder, armed robbery and assault. According to police, two men forced their way into a mobile home in the area of Summer Hill Trailer Park. Police said one of the intruders stabbed a 38-year-old man, the boyfriend of one of the residents.

For someone who spends so much time indulging in fantastical merriments, Paula Peterka sure has her feet on the ground. During the past 17 years, Peterka, a Crownsville wife and mother, has played ever more elaborate roles in the annual medieval pretend-a-thon known as the Maryland Renaissance Festival: wayward juggler, camp follower, a social-climbing countess named Margaret Donnington, even Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of King Henry VIII. But when it came time to be wed in her own life, she was as real as a leg of mutton.

Police investigate death of woman, 83, found in freezer 2 Anne Arundel County police are investigating the death of an 83-year-old woman whose body they found Friday evening in a home freezer in Glen Burnie. Doris Lea Cooke had several medical conditions and had been bedridden for years, family members and witnesses told detectives. When she died several weeks ago, relatives allegedly placed her body in a freezer in the 7400 block of Furnace Branch Road. An autopsy will determine the cause of Cooke's death.
