Bicycle stolen from Glen Burnie youthA 13-year-old boy was robbed of his bicycle as he rode in Old Mill Tuesday, police reported.According to the police report, the boy, who lives in the 600 block ofNolberry Drive in Glen Burnie, was riding his bike on Kenora Drive in Old Mill when a boy named "Bubba" took the bike.

Embarrassed state officials, conceding that they had been taken in by a "con man," said last night that they have forced the resignation of the head of Crownsville Hospital Center after it was discovered he falsified his resume to include degrees he never earned.Haroon R. Ansari, 33, who was chosen after a national search last year to oversee the 253-bed hospital and its $24 million budget, resigned Monday after being confronted with several "discrepancies" on his resume, said Robert W. Eastridge, deputy secretary of the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

A fire that swept through a Crownsville home Saturday night caused an estimated $375,000 in damage and killed two dogs, fire officials say.Lt. Robert Kornmann, an Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman, said firefighters responded to the home of Dwain and Theresa Kinsinger in the 800 block of Coachway Drive in the Downs section of Crownsville at 9:26 p.m. Saturday.He said when the first engines arrived 11 minutes later, crews reported that 75 percent of the two-story wood-frame house was burning.

State police are investigating the suspicious death of a patient at Crownsville State Hospital who was found early Sunday in the psychiatric ward.A member of the medical staff found the body of Soo-Jung Kyung, 36, at 12:20 a.m., said state police spokesman Michael McKelvin. Although there were no immediate signs of injury, the preliminary cause of death is blunt-force trauma to the head, he said."But that could mean anything from a fall to being hit with a baseball bat," Mr. McKelvin said.

Chrysalis House, one of the few rehabilitation programs in Maryland to treat pregnant women hooked on drugs, is expanding its services with a new 33-bed center in Crownsville.Unable to grow in Pasadena, the program has purchased six acres off Crownsville Road, behind Crownsville State Hospital, for a bigger facility. One wing in the new center will be reserved for pregnant women and women with young children."Our hope is to stop the cycle of addiction," said Carole Baker, head of the Anne Arundel County chapter of United Way and president of the Chrysalis House board of directors.

4 options proposed for east-west roadThe Greater Severna Park Council is scheduled to discuss various plans for an east-west boulevard, stretching from Veterans Highway to Route 2, during its monthly meeting tomorrow.The group's Public Works Committee and the Severn Run Federation will address how each of four proposed options would affect Severna Park.The proposals range from plowing a new path from Veterans Highway to Mission Street to painting new stripes on Benfield Boulevard.The controversial road has been under discussion since the 1960s, when an east-west highway project began.

A Crownsville man was killed Monday when the car in which he was riding skidded off the road and hit a tree, county police said.HenryChristian Nutter, 20, of the 900 block Bargagni Road, was pronounceddead at Anne Arundel Hospital shortly after the 11:45 p.m. accident.Police said Rodney Linden Truman, 18, of the 1100 block Severn View Drive, was driving west on St. Steven's Church Road when he tried to pass a car in a no-passing zone. As Truman passed the car driven by Michele Marie Fredericks, 19, of the 8000 block Phirne Road in GlenBurnie, he lost control and hit a tree and collided with Fredericks'car, police said.
