Steve Cromer Southwestern, baseball The senior had a dominant week on the mound, striking out 32 batters in 12 innings, and giving up only one hit in wins over Northwestern and Forrest Park. Against Northwestern, Cromer struck out 16 batters, helping lead the Wildcats to a 14-1 victory. Two days later against Forest Park, Cromer tossed his third no-hitter of the season, striking out 16 in a 6-1 win. He was no slouch at the plate either, hitting three doubles and picking up five RBIs in the two games.

Someone forced the door of a Crownsville home Monday and stole a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, county police said yesterday.Debbie Cromer, 30, who lives in the house in the 1300 block of Farfield Loop, told police she discovered the burglary about 5:30 p.m. when she returned home and found that the front door she had left locked had been forced open, police said.The thief also moved furniture and pulled out bedroom drawers. The gun was taken from the bedroom. Ms. Cromer said she could not give police the make, model and value of the weapon because it belonged to her husband, who was out of town, police said.

THELMA R. DUBAS, 87 of Peckville, PA, died Tuesday morning at Moses-Taylor Hospital after a brief illness. Her husband is Michael C. Dubas. The couple recently celebrated 65 years of marriage Born in Ft. Littleton, PA she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Estelle Wible Cromer. She was a graduate of Harrisburg School of Nursing. She was employed as an OB-GYN supervisor in several Baltimore area hospitals and also worked at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. She resided for most of her life in Baltimore but spent the last 29 years in Peckville after her husband's retirement.

JOHN E. SPANGLER, 88 of Hanover, died Thursday, May 6, 2004. He was the husband of Lena Cromer Spangler and the late Mae nee Oberholtzer Spangler. He is also survived by two daughters; Sandra M. Robinson, Timonium, and Janice S. Mc Cormick, Ellicott City. The Funeral Service will be 11 A.M. Monday from Upper Milford Mennonite Church, Zionsville, PA. Viewings will be Sunday 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the Wetzel F.H., 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover and Monday, 1 hour prior to service at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

LONDON - The U.S. government seriously contemplated using military force to seize oil fields in the Middle East during the Arab oil embargo of 30 years ago, according to a declassified British government document made public yesterday. The top-secret document reveals that the U.S. government, under President Richard M. Nixon, was prepared to act more aggressively than previously thought if tensions between Israel and its Arab neighbors continued to escalate after the October 1973 Middle East war or if the oil embargo did not abate.
