A driver on an Anne Arundel County road Wednesday evening lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole, leaving him and a female passenger with critical injuries at Maryland Shock Trauma, according to Anne Arundel police. A statement released by police officials Thursday said that at about 11:07 p.m. Wednesday, county police and fire departments responding to the area of Hammonds Ferry Road and Evelyn Road in Linthicum found a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette against a utility pole.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts announced an across-the-board review of how city officers use weapons after the accidental shooting of a trainee during exercises last week. Speaking Tuesday at the police academy on Northern Parkway, Batts said he will review how police use guns, Tasers and other weapons in "every facet of policing this city. " "We had a major procedural breakdown in our systems, and we're working to correct those," Batts told reporters as instruction resumed at the academy after a weeklong suspension.

A 22-year-old man was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition after he ran out in front of an SUV at the intersection of Hanson Road and Woodbridge Center Way in Edgewood Thursday evening, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. At about 6:39 p.m., Myles Daye Murphy, of the 800 block of West Spring Meadow Court in Edgewood, was hit as he ran into the path of a 2002 Ford Explorer being driven by Donnita Adams, 32, of Edgewood, according to Eddie Hopkins, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition Monday after a possible domestic altercation at an Annapolis business, police said. At 1 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Harry S. Truman Parkway where they found Tracy Lynn West, 43, and her estranged husband, Calvin Cofield, 50, suffering from gunshot wounds, said Anne Arundel County Lt. Francis Tewey. West, of Crownsville, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. Cofield, of the 7200 block of High Bridge Road in Bowie, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old Harwood man was admitted to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition after the vehicle he was driving struck a utility police in Mayo, Anne Arundel County police said Wednesday. Police said they are investigating the crash that occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday on Central Avenue north of Shoreham Beach Road, in which Floyd William Pearl Jr. of Harwood was seriously injured. Pearl's 1998 Honda CR-V was heading north on Central Avenue when it drifted off the right side of road, police said.

Aaliyah Boyer had hoped to watch the New Year's ball drop on TV, but when she learned she had missed the stroke of midnight by 32 seconds, she returned to the front yard with her friends to watch her neighbors light fireworks. Nearby, someone apparently fired a gun into the air to add to the celebration. Amid the jubilation, the 10-year-old fell to the ground, the warmth and color draining from her body after she was hit by a falling bullet. Her family initially thought that she had fainted, but the wound would prove fatal.

Annapolis police are looking for Clarence Eugene Johnson III, after obtaining a warrant charging him with first-degree murder of a Brooklyn man and the shooting of a woman Wednesday night in Robinwood public housing community in the city. Joseph Louis Johnson III, 33, was killed and Jana Jackson, 31, was critically wounded in the shootings that occurred in the 1400 block of Tyler Ave. Jackson was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, which she is critical condition, police said.

A pedestrian was struck by a car along Route 50 in Annapolis on Sunday night, sustaining life-threatening injuries, according to fire and police officials. Emergency personnel responded to the ramp from eastbound Route 50 onto Rowe Boulevard about 8:37 p.m. and found the severely injured 33-year-old man, and transported him to Anne Arundel Medical Center, said Chief Michael Cox, an Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman, and a dispatcher at the Maryland State Police Glen Burnie Barrack.

Anne Arundel County police provided more details Monday about a weekend incident where a boy and his aunt were attacked by the family's dogs. Police responding to reports of a disturbance on the 3400 block of Barnsley Court entered the residence where the 7-year-old boy and his aunt were being attacked by two American Bulldogs outside the family's rear porch. Both dogs were shot, police said, including one who lunged at an officer. Police said Anne Arundel County Animal Control later euthanized the dogs.
