Two Carroll County residents injured in unrelated accidents Monday remained in critical condition yesterday, hospital spokeswomen said.In the first incident, Russell G. Hogan, 55, of Lineboro was burned when vapors from a solvent he was using to strip wax from a kitchen floor ignited after a family member turned on a gas stove about 6: 30 p.m., state fire marshals said.Hogan suffered second- and third-degree burns over about 90 percent of his body, fire marshals said.He was taken to Baltimore Regional Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Jockey Rick Wilson is in critical condition University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit following a spill at Pimlico Saturday afternoon. Wilson was dropped when his mount, Advance to Go, stumbled coming out of the gate during the second race. The jockey flipped head over heels to the ground and lay motionless, face down, as the field rounded the first turn. The starting gate crew and track outriders signaled the other riders to pull up their mounts at the head of the lane and moments later the race was ruled "no contest" by the stewards.

A 44-year-old Annapolis man who was found bloody and unconscious Thursday outside the Robin Wood housing complex in Annapolis was listed in critical but stable condition yesterday at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, authorities said. Reginald McGowan, an auto transmission repairman, was found with a severe wound to the left side of his face about 1 a.m. in the 1300 block of Tyler Ave. Detectives believe that he might have been on his way to visit a friend. McGowan, whose identity Annapolis police initially were unable to confirm, appeared to have been robbed and assaulted, Detective Kevin Lloyd said.

LOS ANGELES -- Rap artist Eazy-E, a founding member of the group N.W.A. and a major figure in the commercial development of "gangsta" rap, has AIDS.Eazy-E, whose real name is Eric Wright, was in critical condition yesterday in the intensive care ward of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Paula Correia.Eazy-E is one of the first major music performers to announce he has AIDS. Health experts and AIDS activists said his declaration forces the public to again confront the danger of AIDS.

A 3-year-old Salisbury boy remained in critical condition last night at a Baltimore hospital, where he was being treated for burns and smoke inhalation he suffered in a fire he started at his home, said a spokesman for the state fire marshal's office.Allen Gosnell said Jason Bolin Jr. of the 300 block of Hammond St. was alone in his mother's bedroom about noon playing with matches and set the bed on fire. A baby sitter, Jared M. Waller, 21, tried to rescue Jason but was driven back by smoke, Gosnell said.

An 18-year-old Annapolis man was in critical condition yesterday after he was shot in the back Friday evening.Darryl Collins of the first block of College Creek Terrace was taken to Prince George's Hospital's shock trauma unit with a single gunshot wound.A second victim, John R. Furbush, 17, of the 100 block of Obery Court in Annapolis, suffered a minor gunshot wound to his left arm. He was treated at the scene.Sgt. Robert Beans of the Annapolis Police Department said police had identified a suspect but no arrest had been made.

A 17-year-old Westminster boy remained in critical condition yesterday after being injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening on Route 27 near Sams Creek Road in Taylorsville, authorities said. Police said Christopher Michael Collier of Cardinal Drive was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore shortly after the 9:30 p.m. accident. According to police, Collier was traveling west on Sams Creek Road when his 1988 Toyota Celica veered into the path of a Ford pickup truck, which was northbound on Route 27. Police said an investigation should reveal whether the youth stopped at the intersection before starting across the highway.

A Westminster woman remained in critical condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, three days after she was shot, apparently by her husband before he killed himself, officials said. Jenny Amass, 43, of the 2600 block of Old Washington Road called for help about 9:30 p.m. Monday. She was flown to the trauma center after Maryland State Police from the Westminster barracks and an emergency medical crew broke into the home and found her lying on her bedroom floor beside her husband, John Amass, 38, who was dead.
