The verdict has been rendered, and there will be a rematch. No. 2 Alabama (11-1) edged out No. 3 Oklahoma State (11-1) in Sunday's final Bowl Championship Series standings to earn the right to play No. 1 LSU for the national title Jan. 9 in New Orleans. So was the verdict wrong? "For whatever reason, we came up a little bit short," a disappointed Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. "We all have to live with the system," Alabama coach Nick Saban said on ESPN's bowl selection show.

The Ravens' demoralizing 22-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday was a step back for a team poised to take charge of the AFC North and the overall conference. But why the Ravens performed so dismally is a subject that befuddles many of those who watched Sunday's game and the team's showings in losses to the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 18 and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 24. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin is one of those puzzled by the Ravens' play this season.

In the NFL, everyone tries to keep up with the Joneses. And for good reason. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has transformed a franchise that was losing $1 million per month in 1989 into the league's richest team, one valued by Forbes at $1.8 billion. Despite their struggles on the field, the Cowboys are routinely at the top when it comes to number of prime-time games, sponsorship revenue, TV viewership numbers and merchandise sales. In fact, their cheerleaders outsell many NFL teams in merchandise.

Each week, we bring you a Q&A with a Ravens player, coach or team executive to help you learn a little more about the team. Today's guest is center/left guard Andre Gurode. You have made the switch from center to left guard while Ben Grubbs recovers from strained ligaments in his toe. How would you describe the process of making that transition? It's pretty difficult. Playing offense is a challenge in and of itself, but it's difficult from the stance that your dominant hand as a right guard is your right hand, and your dominant hand as a left guard is your left hand.

If he can manage pain Dan Pompei Chicago Tribune If Tony Romo can do no further damage by playing, and if he can handle excruciating pain without allowing it to affect his performance, he should and will suit up for the Cowboys on Monday when they play host to the Redskins. Based on what the Cowboys are saying, it appears likely he will receive medical clearance. Now it becomes a matter of pain management. Romo did fine with that Sunday, when he threw for many of his 345 yards after the injury.

The other three NFC East teams might have celebrity quarterbacks and they may have started the season with high playoff expectations, but in the season's opening act, it's the Redskins who've quickly stolen the division spotlight. With a 2-0 record and sole possession of the NFC East lead, the Redskins have roared out of the starting gate to the surprise of many — but certainly not all. "Nothing really has surprised me," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said of his team's first two games.

Oklahoma State is the real deal. The Cowboys dismantled Arizona 37-14 on Thursday night, and with an offense that can score through the air and on the ground, they could be a national title contender. Georgia has the talent to be successful. Despite being 0-2, the Bulldogs have the players to get back in the mix in the SEC. Sophomore Aaron Murray is one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and running back Isaiah Crowell could be freshman of the year. It's too bad Mark Richt might not be around to enjoy them after this season.
