Maryland is 16-2 at home this season. But the games to watch these days are the road contests. That's not just because two out of Maryland's last three regular-season games are on the road. It's because away games are a litmus test of how evolved you are as a team. It seems almost any ACC team can win in their home arena this season. Consider that Boston College was one point away from beating both Duke and Miami at home. On the road, you've got to be tougher, more mature and resilient.

No. 5 Johns Hopkins may welcome No. 14 Princeton to Homewood Field on Friday night without the services of Rob Guida. The junior midfielder has been hampered by an unspecified injury that prevented him from playing in the team's 17-8 rout of Michigan last Saturday, and his availability for Friday's contest is unclear. “Rob's going to be a week-to-week, day-to-day kind of thing,” coach Dave Pietramala said. For the past three seasons, Guida has run on the first midfield with seniors John Ranagan and John Greeley.

Love them or hate them, Peeps are popping. Fluffy little sugar-coated marshmallow critters, around since the 1950s, are no longer merely an Easter-basket staple. They're cultural touchstones, with fan clubs, a clothing line and even a store devoted to them at National Harbor. Now we want to see how you can use them as an ingredient. Enter our Baltimore Sun Peeps recipe contest by devising a way to creatively incorporate Peeps into a dish. Recipes can be a sweet, but we'd love to see some savories.

Jacoby Jones danced in several NFL end zones this season as he went from unheralded free agent pickup to one of the heroes of the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month. He'll now take his dance moves to another stage, and this time, they'll be judged. The wide receiver and Pro Bowl return man was unveiled by ABC tonight as one of the contestants on 'Dancing With the Stars.' The rest of the cast will be announced Tuesday on Good Morning America . Season 16 of the show will debut on March 18 on ABC. The announcement was made during a commercial break of tonight's Academy Awards on ABC. "Jacoby Jones just won a Super Bowl ring," the commercial said.

Shawn Nadelen wasn't happy about Towson's 12-6 loss to No. 5 Johns Hopkins Saturday night, but he reserved a good portion of his anger for the behavior of some of the players representing his alma mater. The Tigers coach was visibly enraged after Blue Jays senior defenseman Chris Lightner was flagged with 2:43 left in the fourth quarter for an illegal body check that was a non-releasable, one-minute penalty. During a timeout, Nadelen and Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala exchanged some words, and Nadelen said after the contest that he was irked by the way several of Pietramala's players were reacting to Lightner's hit. “I was very upset they were celebrating a very potentially lethal hit,” said Nadelen, a former defenseman who played for Pietramala in 2001, his senior year.

In the season opener for both teams, Mount St. Mary's visits No. 3 Maryland, which has won all nine meetings in this series. The Mountaineers went 6-9 and barely qualified for the Northeast Conference tournament after winning the league in 2011, but do return eight of 10 starters and three seniors who redshirted last season. The Terps also return eight starters from last year's squad that advanced to its second consecutive NCAA tournament final. Here are a few factors that could play a role in the outcome at Byrd Stadium in College Park on Tuesday evening.

Johns Hopkins kicks off the season locally with its season opener against Siena. The No. 5 Blue Jays have won all previous four meetings with the Saints and are 10-2 in season openers under coach Dave Pietramala. In addition, Johns Hopkins is 13-3 in February and has not lost to an opponent this month in its last nine games. Here are a few factors that could influence the outcome at Homewood Field in Baltimore Friday evening. 1) Use the emotion. Since an 11-5 loss to Maryland in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals, the Blue Jays have had nine long months to think about what could have been.

Wednesday's entry is the second installment of a series taking a look at each of the eight Division III programs in this state according to their order of finish from last season. The Sun's lacrosse preview is slated to be published on Friday, Feb. 8. This is Hood's turn. Overview: After two years of gradual improvement, the Blazers fell back to earth in 2012, winning just four of 17 contests and missing a berth in the six-team Capital Athletic Conference tournament. But joining Stevenson in a move to the Middle Atlantic Conference has injected the program with a sense of excitement as the team begins to establish rivalries with new opponents.
