Since yesterday's post on pointless strictures went up, further suggestions have come in. Eventually I will repost the original text with all the additions, but for now, keep 'em coming. I'm a little apprehensive about some of these. Since our newspapers, magazines and book publishers have dispensed with most of the geezers,* those remaining on the thin red line of American editing may not even be aware of some of the more venerable superstitions. I certainly don't wish to corrupt the young.

The state Department of Transportation reported a collision on the inner loop of Interstate 695 prior to Exit 16 (Interstate 70) in Baltimore County at 9:10 a.m. A three-vehicle collision on the inner loop of Interstate 695 prior to Exit 16 (Interstate 70) in Baltimore County hampered traffic toward the end of the morning rush hour, according to the state Department of Education. The crash closed one of four inner loop traffic lanes and one of two inner loop shoulders at 9:15 a.m., DOT said.

A 20-year-old Westminster man intent on committing "suicide by cop" crashed his parents' sport utility vehicle Tuesday night, killing an elderly Reisterstown woman, Baltimore County police said. Police said Nicholas Mottley led officers on a chase through Baltimore County, where he rammed a police car, was involved in another small crash, then sped off and ultimately struck a car driven by Martha Tabares, 74. Tabares was killed instantly when the Chevrolet Traverse Mottley was driving struck her Toyota Corolla nearly head-on at 8:22 p.m., said Cpl. John Wachter, a police spokesman.

A collision on Interstate 395 North at Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Baltimore City was reported at 8:45 a.m., no additional information was given. In Howard County, debris in the roadway on MD 32 at West Linden Church Road closed the westbound right turn lane and shoulder at 8:39 a.m. The Maryland Transportation Administration reported minor delays on the light rail.

A CSX Transportation dockworker who says he suffered disabling injuries last August when a tanker collided with a Curtis Bay pier has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the shipping company. David Rienas of Abingdon was atop a coal-loading machine on the Bayside Coal Pier when the Wawasan Ruby struck, "causing it to be dragged down the pier with great force," according to the suit, filed Friday. Rienas, 42, is asking the court for $5.2 million as compensation for back, neck and rib injuries that have kept him from working and have caused him permanent injuries "including mental anguish, fright and emotional distress and disfigurement.

An overturned vehicle along Interstate 70 prior to Route 29 near the border between Baltimore and Howard counties was causing major delays as of about 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the State Highway Administration. Also, a collision on Interstate 83 south of the 41st Street bridge was causing major delays there, according to the city transportation department. At least two of three westbound lanes and the westbound shoulder were closed as of 8:15 a.m., and a traffic camera showed vehicles crawling along I-70 just west of Interstate 695. One person was transported from the scene by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department, which responded at 7:56 a.m. A county police dispatcher said units were beginning to clear the scene about 8:30 a.m. In Baltimore, two of four southbound bores of the Fort McHenry Tunnel were closed as of 8:30 a.m. because of a disabled vehicle in the road, the SHA reported.

Four firefighters and three civilians were injured early Wednesday morning when a tractor trailer and a fire engine collided and flipped over a dividing wall on Interstate 495 in Prince George's County, according to fire officials. The accident temporarily closed all lanes of the highway in both directions as emergency responders reached the scene and began treating the injured, and some lanes remained closed hours later. About 2:50 a.m., the fire engine was responding to another accident on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway just south of Route 50 when it was rear-ended by the tractor trailer, said Chief Alicia Francis, a Prince George's Fire Department spokeswoman.

Snow covered, wet roads were causing significant traffic delays on Thursday morning, as accidents were reported across the Baltimore region. On northbound Interstate 95 just north of the Fort McHenry Tunnel toll plaza, the two right lanes and the right-hand shoulder were blocked as of 8:30 a.m. due to an incident involving a disabled vehicle in the roadway, according to the State Highway Administration. In Baltimore County, one lane and the shoulder of northbound Interstate 83 remained closed about 8:45 a.m. due to a collision that occurred hours before.

A collision involving four vehicles on eastbound Route 50 near the exit for Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis on Wednesday morning left two people injured and significantly slowed morning traffic through the area, according to the Maryland State Police. Two people were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with injuries sustained in the accident, a police dispatcher at the Glen Burnie Barrack said. She did not know their condition. The two right-hand deceleration lanes onto the exit ramp for Rowe Boulevard remained blocked as of 10 a.m., and police remained on the scene, the dispatcher said.
